Who watches it? Watches Prem matches on a regular basis?

I love football, go see Town, watch a bit of non league but not watched more than the odd match a season in the Prem for about a decade. I couldn't recognise most Premier League players these days.

Am I alone? Am I unusual in being a football supporter with little interest in the Premier League?

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

I'm in the 'if it's on in the pub, I'll watch it it' camp, but I wouldn't say I 'follow' it. But in all fairness, that's nearly how I roll with Town these days.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

I'm the same OP. I watch the Town, and I'll watch a bit of non league (normally when we're visiting friends in Kettering I'll watch Kettering Town if they're at home).

I really don't like the Premier league and what it stands for. The money disgusts me on a regular basis.

I watch very little football on TV.

I get a bit more interested in the Prem when they are actually playing for something, like trying to avoid relegation.

Usually watch Naarwich in the hope and expectation that they will lose.

Watched most of The Championship games that I could when we were in it but have watched few if any this season.

I sometimes watch Champions League on BT and I did watch Barcelona whenever possible when SKY had La Liga.

Do not watch Internationals and the last World Cup that I watched extensively was 1982 and I have not intentionally seen a ball kicked in the last four or five World Cup's.

Watching MOTD on catch-up (to skip past all the talking & analysis shiote) is about my limit these days.

Might stay and watch the odd game down the pub if I’m in there already.

I watch it occasionally if I'm bored and I have nothing better to do but I'm not really fussed either way. To be honest I'm actually quite ambivalent about Town ever getting back to the Prem. There's an awful lot to detest about it.

I find the Prem league so far away from where Town are that I cannot be bothered to watch it. Even the highlights show that is on a Monday evening here in Oz is given a miss.

Looking at the money paid in transfers and wages for some very average players just turns me away. Players signed then just sent out on loan time after time or left to rot sitting in the stand. Sounds a bit like Town Haha, just at a lower level.

There are some great players in the prem league who work had then you get those two at Leicester who just did not turn up for training. or the ones who don't want to be at a club anymore so they will not play.

I used to when I had more time, but I hardly even glance at Match of the Day anymore, I like Spurs, Palace and Bournemouth (and naturally when Norwich lose!) but just lost total interest and not watched a full match in years. I do still love Ipswich and go to the home games there, so not totally gone off football. It's the ludicrous money which goes to the top flight teams and the expense of most players that has killed it for me sadly.

Wife and kids hate football...

Watch MOTD and EFL on Quest on a Sunday morning when not working, will watch the lunch time games on BT when working at the weekend, the time coincides rather conveniently with a period that tends to be idle.

There are aspects of the Premier League that are still attractive; some of Massive Citeh's football continues to be breathtaking, Liverpool approaching their 1st title in 30 years [sorry EVER as football only started in 92] is of interest, as is Leicester's season so far [though could their bubble have burst?], Southampton picking themselves up from a pasting to hit top half of the table and Sheffield United having a goalkeeper with more Telegraph FFL points than Citeh, Chelsea, Spurs or Arsenal's. Football still has it's beauty... even if we're not part of it.

If I could get away with watching it then I’d probably watch most matches televised by Sky or BT.

The sad fact being that these days, the telly is mainly on CBeebies

I absolutely love the World Cup and all other tournaments on normal telly.

I have no real interest in the Champions League - just incredibly long winded and what with the final not being on free telly anymore I haven’t watched the last few finals.

I'll have a watch on Sunday morning if I'm up before wife, but otherwise no interest nowadays. Just so over-analysed now. i'd like to see some of our past looked at like though, 81' especially!

I watch the Prem very occasionally but only if I'm not doing something else etc. I rarely make an effort to watch it. I probably wouldn't follow it at all if it wasn't for fantasy football.

I do really like the championship, it's an excellent league. I'm far more likely to watch that than the Prem. I find football on quest pretty poor though.

I probably go to 60% of all town games.

I followed England in the qualifiers for Euro 2016 home and away. I did every England game in France too. I'm hoping for a few England games at Euro 2020 as I have 15 odd caps left. Demand is seismic though.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

I watch a lot of BT and Sky games, the last few years it's been a nice distraction from following Ipswich. I don't get to any games because of home life so Football is a bit of escapism.

Literally had the same conversation with a mate last night. I love my football and always have but like you , I struggle to name 99% of starting line ups. I’d perhaps know apart from the top 6 , maybe 3-4 players

Interested to see any up and coming potential England players now and again but otherwise not bothered. Mainly teams of foreign mercenaries playing each other for millions of pounds every year. There’s a ceiling above which the vast majority of clubs through the whole league can now never go above so whereas I opposed a European super league years ago, now I think it would be a good idea.

I watch it every now and then, but I much prefer to watch Bundesliga or Bundesliga.2 whenever it’s on BT Sport.

It seems so far removed from where we're at I might as well watch the Chinese league. I haven't watched MOTD at all this season and it used to be a must watch. Apart from Liverpool romping home and Norwich being at the bottom, I couldn't tell you in too much detail about what's happening in between. It had started to get a bit dull - there's only so many "you'll never see this again" moments you can take before it starts feeling a bit contrived.

Basically in sympathy with the OP, ... but when I do watch Premiership (like others, 'cos I'm in the pub and it comes on) I realise that lower leagues actually have more of the bad stuff than the Premiership; just as much diving, just as much appealing for stuff that obviously isn't right (throw-ins, notably), more time-wasting (in particular, over-long goal celebrations), - and my particular hate, - the long-throw specialist who trundles over from left back to take a throw on the right wing. Plus premiership clubs tend to wear their proper kit away more.

The best thing about lower league when I was a nipper was that you could change ends at half time, and that's pretty rare these days.

I used to watch any game going in the Premiership or Championship and would watch hundreds over the course of the year.

Now I watch the Champions League games during the week when on (especially enjoy the knockout rounds) and the odd Premier League Game if it involves teams I want to watch or is a big game.

I haven't watched MOTD in about a decade and the last non Town Championship or lower league game must have been about 8 or 9 years ago.

I get to around 90% of town games home and away but haven't watched many Orem games for years , the odd one here and there. The last 2 being Liverpool United on Sunday but before that it was Leicesters 9-0v Southampton that I stuck on and then got hooked hoping to see our unwanted record taken .

The last few seasons I have watched many championship games live on Sky ( perhaps cos those are players who would be playing against us) or that the games had a bearing on our division.

This season I have still watched more championship games than last season but not as many as previously , as now those teams and players won't be playing us .

I can only name about half the starting 11s for most Prem games not involving the big 6.

For example I would struggle big time if u asked me to name 7 of the Arsenal starting line up yesterday ...

Big money is killing the game ... Like someone else said , let the big 6 go off to a European league . Big money would go from the Prem and the game might , just might open up again...

I stream every Town game, getting up at 4am for the midweek games. I’ll check TWTD 4-5 times a day and listen to itfc podcasts every week.

Yet I haven’t followed the Prem league since Chelsea’s first title with Abramovic’s money (about 2005 I think) as I’m just not interested in watching teams buy the league. Last game I watched would have been about 10 years ago - long before moving down under in 2014. Have watched a single champions league game for almost 20 years and at the World Cup last year only recognised the names of about 1/3 of the England squad.

It’s a combination of the obscene amounts of money and the constant falling over under minimal/no contact that has turned me off. It’s an awful sport to watch now at all levels because of the latter.

I’ll save my sports viewing time for cricket, Aussie rules and watching my kids (14-year old son is close to state level at rowing and my 10-year old plays for her school at netball).

Well I think I DO watch the best league in the world.... but it's called the NFL this week... and the NFL Show is definitely the best sports programme on tele at the moment by a country mile.

On the question of Prem..erm no. I occasionally watch a bit of match of the day on sundays. From my experience of London season ticket holders making the yomp into London for strange kick off times even season ticket holders dont go to as many matches as they used to.... its just way too inconvenient
