Likewise - made my own way there from Felixstowe to see Town v Preston in August 1964 (lost 1-5). I think that the aerial photo was used on the programme cover that season.

Early 1963 there was a lot of snow. Football almost shut down for two or three months. ITFC played on Boxing Day 1962 and next league game played was 23rd February although two away F.A. Cup games got played in January. As the Boxing Day game and the 23rd Feb game were both away we went from 21st December 1962 until 3rd March 1963 without a first team game at PR. edit-to answer your question, I don't remember but certainly nothing like 1963. Snow back then in this region (from memory) was an annual event anyway not the rarity that it is now. [Post edited 27 Jan 2020 10:04]

There are photos of my childhood in the mid-60s which evidence snow every winter (in Cambridge), around 4-6 inches not unusual. It was a big deal though - I think we likely only had one decent snowfall a year, though it was cold enough for it to hang around for 2-3 weeks.

I think that is right. Winters were winters and summers were summers generally.

It was tiny, a small terrace in front of a few rows of seats. They rebuilt it in 2 phases, with the bulk of the work completed a couple of seasons before they added the 2 ends to make the back tier stretch the length of the pitch. If memory serves, the record attendance (38k ish) came when those 2 ends were fully occupied for the Leeds Cup tie in 1974.I think the old stand went to Foxhall stadium.

The old stand did end up at Foxhall Stadium. The construction of The Portman Stand(as it was) was started in the summer of 1971 and was in use at the start of 71/72 season and it was extended as you say. The 38010 Leeds attendance was in 1975.

I think you are right and I think the old West stand survives, as they merely added the new tier behind and above the old stand, much the same as they did to Churchmans. It may also be that the original terracing for the East stand survives for the same reason.

I'm sure the old East stand terrace was removed and relaid. I was also told years ago by someone who worked security at the 'centre spot' there was an underground gym/squash court close by....is that true?

As you say, the stand went to Foxhall. Part of it blew down in the hurricane of October 1987, but two-thirds of it survived, but then was demolished in the early 90s as part of the Bradford Fire report regulations outlawed stands of that type. If you go to Foxhall now, there has been a stand on the back straight for around 6-7 years, as Spedeworth bought a couple of stands that were used in the 2012 Olympics, but under them, you can still see the concrete footings of where the old football stand stood.

Nice one. The second picture is almost taken from where my mates and I used to stand which was halfway up the North stand and about 5 people in from the side. I collected every program from late 60's to mid 70's but when my parents sold up and moved they threw them all out.

The winter of 1963 was cold. I remember going with my Dad down to Dovercourt beach so he could show me the sea, which was frozen for 100 yards from shore.
