If I've read that right the bloke didn't want to get his wife to a hospital for her broken wrist and head injury?

How irresponsible.

If my 70yr old Mum broke her wrist, damaged her knee and smashed her forehead and an Ipswich fan put her on a train from London Bridge to Tooting Broadway, I'd want to find him too.

I suppose, but surely an ambulance should be called in a moment like that no? The whole situation sounds weird?!

Why an ambulance? She was clearly able to make her own way, if she wanted.

Indeed. But it is strange that no one notified staff at the station, some of whom would certainly be first aid trained and could advise.

Either way, the pair of old puffins clearly got back safely and are appreciative of our chap's efforts.

A lot of old people don't like to make a fuss, unlike some of the snowflakes commenting here. Her husband is clearly a sensible chap and would have sought help if he thought it was needed.

Calling two 80 year olds old puffins is disrespectful

Yes, they're readily available in your local Iceland, next to the donner kebab pizza.

I would guess it wasn't known at the time the wrist was broken?

People can be funny when they hurt themselves like that; don't want a fuss and can be quite stubborn about it too.

I took one elderly lady to a doctor's against her will once and she was furious. (She was in the car for a lift home and fell as she was getting in - I didn't kidnap her). Her face was a bloody state but she kept insisting I took her straight home.

She sent a thank you later. It's a mixture of shock and embarrassment at the time isn't it.

Can you get a Puffin Donner kebab. Have to be p*ssed to have any kebab to be honest. Think had s kebab years ago at the Bodrum Grill in Felixstowe. Only because the chippy wasn't open at 3am.

An ambulance??? If the lady was concious and breathing she'd probably get to the hospital quicker by tube.

Exactly. A broken wrist doesn't require an emergency ambulance. Ambulance services are overstretched and should only be called in an EMERGENCY.

An ambulance would have taken 6 hours, waiting in A&E 5 hours....if ever there was a time to keep calm and carry on this was it.

What happened to the First Response scheme?

That worked a treat; a single paramedic sent to a scene, arrived quickly, assessed the person on the spot and either dealt with the episode there and then or recommended further support and called an ambulance.

Made complete sense and was a potential life-saver whilst also preserving ambulance units and their crews for more necessary situations.

There is only one reason for first responders... response times. When I worked for the LAS, response time for red calls was set at 8 mins. If we didn't reach 85% of patients within 8 mins, the service lost funding. A seriously ill or injured patient should be in hospital, not being examined by a single medic who can't transport them.
