Reading about Trump's State of the Union address and one line popped out 11:15 - Feb 5 with 2256 views | Darth_Koont | ""We will never let socialism destroy American healthcare!" Pick the bones out of that one. The best explanation I have is that he means the American healthcare industry and specifically their profits. But let's be clear, this is who and what we're dealing with when it comes to the NHS and other areas of UK/US trade.

Yes, it felt a bit High School Musical. But I can imagine that if instead of the Queen it was BoJo opening parliament and outlining his plans then it would get pretty rowdy in the HoC. Such a speech would cause fistfights - and given the abject state of our government it probably should.

Indeed. And nothing in that adds up factually or objectively ... unless Trump and his advisors are subconsciously revealing what American healthcare really means to them. Why do so many of the hardcore neoliberal free-market solutions cost much more for overall worse results? US healthcare, Conservative government debt, UK rail travel ... it's almost as if the real goal is to put money into certain people's pockets. That's how I'd design them if so.

The level of attention I received (2 docs and 1 nurse for the whole time) was second to none. No waiting whatsoever (might have been 90 sdeconds whilst they dsent someone off to fetch a wheelchair for me). Spotlessly clean, very polite, relaxed receptionist. No triaging. No crowds; actually nobody else there at all. That'd be lovely here. I can well understand why they wouldn't want whinging sick people cluttering up their hostpitals. Just don't ask to many questions about why I was the only one in an ER department with at least a dozen bays that I could see and which serviced a fairly extensive catchment.

Do you have to tip doctors and nurses over there as well? Or just clap when the procedure's over?

I wasn't paying attention at that point, as I was still trying to process being told to hop (literally, and also couldn't drive) into town to buy my own crutches (c. $200) as they're not allowed to recycle them. Oh, and bandages too. I was a bit taken back by that part of it.

It comes down to whether a government is there to deal with need, or to facilitate greed. Those that do the latter (our current one) are propped up by the same stupidity that keeps the US having a 3rd world healthcare system. An irrational fear that someone else is getting 'one over you' - be they fellow patients, immigrants. Their's is one of wanting the prime place to catch the crumbs that fall from the table rather than wondering why with such a big loaf they have to rely on crumbs - or trickling down as the Tories once had it. I still think this is the last twitches of empire being played out. For us and increasingly the US. Even in our own countries we've become subservient to the multinationals that used to protect our interests and project our values. But I get the feeling that most companies are becoming much more progressive in themselves. And that's by representing the positive aspects of capitalism. Luckily, I think our retreat into isolationism and protectionism will be quickly torpedoed by business as much as socialism. But that's the alliance I dream of and very much how our Western neighbours and the EU are set up. I think that's the only alliance that really makes much sense for the world anyway. Right-wingers are increasingly just effective lobbyists for their own needs.

Great reaction by the crowd though. That a-hole sounded very much on his own. But I get the feeling not many Trump supporters would actually go to a school meeting in the first place. You're absolutely right that this is the Trump rhetoric. Even down to the callous timing and style of its delivery. Also the classic "What? I'm only saying what people are thinking" type of reaction when people were rightly outraged.

| Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me.
Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing.
Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial.
Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid.
Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

Cheap but nowhere near as cheap. Let's not take these desperate searches for equivalence too far. Has there ever been a cheaper public figure let alone leader of a major nation than Trump?

Perhaps the US could try dipping their poor in chlorine when they get ill as they do with their chicken I appreciate that it is not an effective method and nearly 500 or so are poisoned by this lunacy every year in the US, but as the US healthcare system is not there to heal but to make money I'm sure there must be money to be made doing this. "Working class you say, have cancer.... well the good news is we no longer rely upon a course of leeches, it's into the chlorine pool with you, and be grateful..... yee hah " Health4Wealth inc

He was always going to be acquitted but the dems cocked up by impeaching him over something no-one really cares about and gives Trump an open goal to twist this into 'they were trying to impeach me to suppress their own wrongdoings'.
