If she's sussed it out years ago and there's nothing left but friendship; i.e she feels like she's living with some adopted brother, why wouldn't she be 'delighted'?
That means she can get on with her own life too.
I reckon it's possible that the press have got hold of something so it's a pre-emptive strike as others have suggested.

I wasn't criticising, just find it a bit strange to come out as gay, but he doesn't want a relationship with a man. Why say anything at all. If his family knew, that was enough. |
On the 10pm news tonight, I saw about a minute of the clip of the TV show in question in which he came out.
He made it extremely clear & obvious that his primary reason for doing so was his growing feeling of discomfort & dislike of himself for being dishonest & living a lie. It got to a stage where he could no longer tolerate that, and coming out was a relief, esp given the strong support (incl from his family, friends & colleagues) that he's received.
Still not an easy thing to do, esp on live TV - good on him, good role model.
