Judge v Dozzell question 19:09 - Feb 7 with 5508 viewsCaptMickMills

If Dozzell had played instead of Judge in all the consecutive games recently would Dozzell have produced more end product than Judge??

My issue with Judge is how many assists, goals or key passes leading to goals has he had playing regularly in his favoured No 10 position. I tend to think if Dozzell had had the same opportunity he would have had more impact.

Dozzell has been coming back from long term I jury and been in and mainly out of team and not given a run of games.

Just a thought

Given how the team has stuttered as a whole over the past year, I still can't work out if Judge is part of the problem or part of the solution.

Lambert seems to think the latter given he's been an ever-present when fit. But I think we need to give others more of a shot now.

And on a side note, the big defence of Judge was that he was being played out wide and out of position, and should be playing in behind the strikers. But when he's played as a number 10 he's consistently dropped deep and wide anyway. And that seems to defeat the whole point of having wing backs, overlapping CBs and a player like Jackson who does a great job when he moves out wide. Judge just takes their space and gets in the way.

Your antipathy for Judge reminds me of GB and Ed Miliband

I have nothing against the guy, in fact he seems like a decent sort. He's just not very good at football anymore and contributes very little for a player who is basically given complete positional freedom. I don't know why he's still in the side to be honest.

In fairness when he's notionally started as a wide player he hasn't remotely played as one, he's still drifted wherever the feck he likes and he's still failed to influence the game sufficiently.

Absolutely.

I think trying to persist with Judge and Edwards as wide midfielders was ill-judged as neither contributed enough in those positions. Judge through wandering around and Edwards for just not being good enough on the ball when there's no space to run into.

I think Edwards has done OK as a wing back or as a wide attacker. Judge hasn't yet shown a position where he looks as much of an asset.

The issue is our central attacking players get pulled wide. Judge is one of the biggest culprits, yet when played wide he goes all over the place. Technically still a capable player, but does not impose himself on games.

We looked better with Huws as he tends to stay more central and attacks. With Keane also pulling wide and Jackson naturally does and in fairness that is what he brings to the side; we have no one in the centre or arriving late into the box. Hence the constant delay with crosses.

I think we look better when we start with Jackson and Norwood tends to stay more central and offers a greater threat. Kieffer Moore would also have been a useful option at this level against big strong defenders.

He's played as a number 10 consistently for the last 10 or so games and on other occasions earlier in the season. I don't agree we're better with him in the team, I'm struggling to think of much positive that he offers. He's meant to have quality on the ball but he doesn't really show that. He can't beat a man. His set pieces are poor. He offers minimal goal threat. What is it that he does that you think improves us?

When he scores 2 today, I will accept your apology on his behalf.

Which is what I said. He is filling the holes left by others. It is the managers job to tell him to play at 10 and stick to it. I have only seen him play as a proper 10 a few times this season.

He doesnt fill holes- he goes into already crowded wide areas and slows everything down, leaving nothing in the middle to link with.

Completely this. It's like primary school football where everyone just goes where the ball is.

Exactly and this has opened us up to pacey counter attacks....

His formation discipline is non existent, I like him as a player, but at the moment he is playing playground rush to wherever the ball is football, a busy fool and he is better than that... I hope. A number 10 has to stay central as much as possible and feed the forwards then linger around the box.
