Getting rid of Lambert won’t make any difference 07:59 - Feb 12 with 4648 viewsOxford_Blue

Because without money to spend, no decent manager is going to come to us. They would simply be taking a poisoned chalice and damage their career. No premiership or championship manager would be interested. We have already tried the “young, inexperienced” route (Paul Hurst) and that was a catastrophe for everyone.

So, the question is whether Evans is willing to make money available. If he isn’t, then fine, that’s his choice and he already would say he spends a lot just to keep the club running. But my response would be to him - if you’re not going to help the club move forwards, and want to just mitigate your losses, then is that in anyone’s interests? You say there have been offers for the club you’ve turned down. Isn’t it time you actively did all you can to get a buyer, and move on? Accept it hasn’t worked. Give someone else a chance.

If that person exists......

Football is in such a mess, especially with the crippling wages which is just ruining the game. I was listening to Talksport last night and Danny Mills was saying that the Leeds United owner puts in additional £1m a month to keep the club going. This is a huge club that is vibrant again and doing well with home gates in excess 35k+, what chance have you got if clubs like this can't get it right?

It would make a difference if we opted for a manager with a clear philosophy and way of playing. Lambert doesn't have a philosophy, it's more that he's been told to keep the ball on the deck and now we're tippy-tappy'ing it to such an extent that we're overplaying.

A few people have mentioned him, but I've been really impressed with the way Nathan Jones speaks about his passion for the diamond system and the way he expects his teams to implement it. I think he was hard done by at Stoke and would be a very good choice here.

Indeed. But such a manager will be in high demand and why would they come here to be set up for failure

Nathan Jones is out of work and would jump at the chance to come here after failing at Stoke.

Evans has found his happy levels of investment in this League, no doubt he wouldn't be bothered if we didn't go up, he would also be able to offload some of the higher earners and then go on a PR run saying "We're going to promote youth going forwards" you can see it happening.

As long as he has got a manager that gets rewarded for treading water, doesn't moan about lack of funds and isn't too ambitious then Evans can just sit back and wait to see if some other fool fancies buying a football club.

Not sure I agree. Any new manager wants to be able to build their own team. He can’t do that without money. Also why take a manager who has just failed?

Evans doesn't want us to go up, he knows he would have to spend money otherwise it will be a bloodbath.

That's why he gave Lambert a 5 year deal, he will offload the high earners once we don't get promoted and then try promotion with the kids, nice and cheap, but if we don't go up then it's no great shakes for him as the wage bill will have been slashed so his running costs will drop significantly.

Only now are people waking up to the fact that Evans is only interested in stemming his losses.

Get in a good coach then. Why not go for one of the youth coaches at one of the giant clubs? Like a Neil Critchley? Remember when Watford took a punt on Brendan Rodgers?

Fans are so conditioned to think only money and failed ‘names’ can make a difference then laud the approach taken by Brentford in the same breath.

Burley never had money! Only the money he generated from being a great coach with a clear philosophy.

No manager taking a job in League 1 is going to expect a decent transfer kitty. Sides at this level spend very little.

A minute ago you were saying nobody would want to come here and now it seems you're being picky over not taking a manager who failed in a higher league at a bigger club. Make your mind up.

You don't need money to get out of this league, you just need to be a half decent manager with this set of players.

Lambert is screwing this job up badly, he has had the investment in this squad but hasn't a clue how to set them up, or how to win games.

Evans isn't the best owner, and he isn't the worst - but he has backed his manager this year and he's not been repaid - that new contract was a laughable decision from Evans

Lambert must be given to at least the end of the season to turn it around

It is not the Ipswich way just to get rid of managers every 5 minutes

We don't have the right mix of players, 2 good wide men and a target man play a 4-2-3-1 and i think we would have a decent team with the current personnel included.

There's just no drive in the team and you have to look at the coaching they are getting also. They appear to be concentrating on keeping the ball so much that they don't know how to drive forward and attack.

Lambert has spent money and been very well backed by Evans. He signed Judge Norwood and Keane on no doubt excellent wages and also brought in 2 Prem loanees. Why people still seek to excuse or deny Lambert's now-undoubted miserable management skills I don't know.

Or you just play the existing players in a system that actually suits them, like a 4-3-3 or a 4-4-2 with a midfield diamond. The squad is big enough, too big even, and has sufficient quality but we have a clueless manager that has gone from playing line up bingo to sticking with a formation that's not really working even when we don't have the players available to make it work properly.

We spend more money than.... on 09:27 - Feb 12 with 3210 viewsBloots

....practically every team in this league.

Evans is a turd, but to say that the reason we aren't in the play offs of the 3rd Division is due to money is ridiculous.

This is the 3rd Division!

Last night we had players earning £500,000 a year failing to beat players that are earning £100,000 a year.

Our manager is probably earning more than 5 times what their manager is earning, but he still couldn't out think him.

Evans is the reason we aren't challenging for the top half of the Championship, not the top 6 of the 3rd Division.

Every single club at the top of this division has made a profit on transfers this season. We were in deficit until Bialkowski and have one of the biggest wage bills in the division.

17 of our 28 first teamers are here specifically because Lambert made a decision that they should be, either by signing them or by offering them a contract.

If we were getting smashed in the Championship and pointing at the investment we might have a point. Down here? There's no hiding behind finances, we're just badly managed and badly run.

Any half decent manager would get more out of this squad than PL is getting, but we are stuck with him for now, so might as well go with it.

The O.P. , by characterising Hurst as the up-and-coming failed exemplar, condemns anyone else who might appear from that route. One of the reasons that Evans has failed with the more experienced variety is surely linked to his cautious business sense coupled with a lack of personal understanding and poor advisors (I don't count 'Arry). This seems to lead him to an old guard manager who succeeded some time in the past, but is available on account of not succeeeding now.

It surely needs to be a rising star from a lower league who will not, at first, consider our level of funding a poor one when compared to what he has achieved with far less. What appears to have failed with Hurst was the due diligence, especially relating to his team. This ought not prevent us taking another more diligent look at someone who is on the rise.

Hurst had 500 games under his belt as a manager. It's a bit of a stretch to call him an up and comer in any case. He was seen as someone with an excellent track record at a lower level who looked a good bet to step up, but it's not really right that he gets characterised as an example of a young up and comer.
