"think", "probably", "dont deserve to be there", regret about not being up there anymoore, those are all negative self labels, and hes not even sounding convinced about the playoffs line, which highlight Freddie at least and I doubt he's the only one if hes talking in that way openly, has alot of negative self doubt and fears about making mistakes on the pitch in a game
and that ultimately as soon as they step on the pitch manifest themselves in those mistakes happening, or choosing the fail safe option, the lets pass back rather than attack the goal positively...hmm sounds alot like the games of recent form doesnt it
but this is basic sports psychology stuff, 90 per cent of sport is played in the mind, some reckon it maybe even more like 100 per cent, our thoughts influence our actions, our actions influence our thoughts, if you focus on the negative, the negative will happen sure as eggs are eggs.
