Strange question. 20:15 - Feb 14 with 3236 views | Pecker | Why do virtually all football managers have their initials on their clothing? I have never understood it. Who is it for? The players know who the manager is. The press know who the manager is. The fans know who the manager is. I just don't get it.
Strange question. on 20:17 - Feb 14 with 3033 views | SitfcB | The players have it on theirs as well. Just so they know who’s clothes they are?? Like at school innit.

Strange question. on 20:17 - Feb 14 with 3026 views | Nthsuffolkblue | Must be either: they can't remember who they are; or so they get back their own clothes after they have been washed. Maybe they will discover those tags that can be sewn in like we all had when we were schoolkids at some point.

They are just training clothes. S/M/L. I just find it strange. Nothing to worry about, just bored and looking at some photos.

Thing is with our current squad in around 10 years those initials will be the only way we will remember who any of them are.

It certainly goes back to 1970's here because Bobby Robson and his coaching staff all had tracksuits with their initials on. Look at photos from 1970's-TWTD. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I was looking at some photos of my playing days and the Gaffer has his initials on his coat. It is his coat. Nobody else wore it, it was his.

They have their names on their playing shirts. Doesn't matter if you wear a different top in training. It has been washed. It is only a shirt. Jock strap and pants, yes, but shirts.

Plus when players get changed and leave them strewn around the changing room, they can then easily sort out who’s is who’s Also seen in most SIL changing rooms

Well they obviously all like to wear the same shirt as they all do - plus different sizes etc. Sure James Pullen and Paul Lambert don’t want to wear each other’s kit

We have our initials on our own training kit. Not always been washed. Sonetimes you leave tops on training pitch or on side during game. Just makes life much easier to find your stuff. Simple. It's also just a nice touch.

Yes but Robson really did need help with people's names.

In ten years time 18 year olds will be speaking of this as though halycon days, not just Football League but the third tier too.

Strange question. on 09:25 - Feb 15 with 2283 views | Chrisd | Helps with the washing. In the past (this might be different now), apprentices were assigned to certain members of the coaching and playing staff. They then knew which kit belonged to which staff member (initials) or in the player's case (numbers) when collecting it up for washing or putting it out for training etc.. All items were either numbered or initialled - waterproof jackets, sweat top, t-shirt, shorts (they were lined with slips). It was only socks that were a free for all. [Post edited 15 Feb 2020 9:28]
