Barcelona - More Than A Club.... 16:47 - Feb 18 with 6204 views | itfcjoe | They have a shortage of strikers, but despite having players out on loan, B team players, youth players etc - they get granted special dispensation from Spanish Football Federation to go out and sign a striker outside the window. They then pay release fee for Leganes striker (and ex-Middlesborough man) Martin Braithwate. Braithwate is Leganes top scorer this season with 10 goals as they fight relegation. They are 19th in the table, 2 points away from safety. All players in Spanish league have a release clause. Leganes can do nothing to stop this transfer as it has been met. They also can't sign anyone else because it is outside the window. So they just have their best player taken away, so mega club Barcelona can get a striker to cover a few games whilst others are injured. What a grubby situation, from a club who act like they are the good guys but seem to gt involved in more and more of these grubby situations. Poor old Leganes

Just read further into it - they sent 2 strikers out on loan in January, still have Messi and Griezmann fit. Leganes sold their main striker in January to Sevilla, but obviously haven't felt need to replace Braithwaite as the window had shut - and now can't! Barca only have 2 players injured in that position, and new signing can only play in La Liga and not the Champions League - it is an absolute stitch up

... and no doubt Braithwaite will be sold in the summer at a fraction of what they paid because he really isn't needed by Barcelona. Although I'm sure this has been a rule for some years now in La Liga. I think something similar happens in Ligue 1 in France as well.

It's a standard rule in both Spain and France. The clause is that you have to pay the minimum release fee but obviously in some cases that isn't very high. Leganes can now go and sign a striker under the same rules, but obviously they won't have the same level of money.

Barcelona - More Than A Club.... on 17:04 - Feb 18 with 5184 views | Tommyparker | Suraez was ruled out for four months in early January with a knee injury, while it was confirmed on Tuesday Dembele would be sidelined for six months. Under La Liga rules, if a player is out for more than five months, then any Spanish club can apply to sign one player from another La Liga club or bring in any out-of-contract players in Spain. It is considered an emergency option that any team can use this rule that has been approved by the clubs, so Legannes have approved this transfer. So Barcelona have not broken any rules.

No, Leganes can't sign a new player now. The rules only apply to long term injuries (I believe they have to be ruled out for over 5 months) and do not apply to the subsequent transfers made such us the Braithwaite to Barca scenario. Absolutely ridiculous. https://www.sport.es/en/news/barca/leganes-would-not-be-able-to-sign-a-replaceme | | | | Login to get fewer ads

No rules broken but seems a little immoral/injust that a super power club like Barca can just poach the main striker from a side battling relegation. No other forwards that play for Leganes have scored a goal this season... The situation is a bit cruel

How in any way is it fair though? A club lose literally one player to injury after the window shuts and they can then take one from elsewhere who subsequently don’t have the option to sign anyone as they haven’t lost anyone to injury

Both clubs have to agree on the transfer. A club can easily say no to the deal, Barcelona have done nothing illegal. Under La Liga rules, if a player is out for five months, then clubs can apply to sign one player from another La Liga club or bring in any out of contract players in Spain. It is considered an emergency option that any team can use and a rule that has been approved by both clubs, so Leganes can say no to this transfer happening.

They had a shirt sponsor, which meant they had to donate £10million to charity every season. Disgusting organisation.

Yup. They manipulate markets on purpose lower down the leagues just to make money too, with no thought about the players careers or anything. Really scummy.

Plus the extent of their U18 signings that led them to a transfer ban
