Think we all know his voice from years of radio work.

Terrible news to hear, his passion for local football genuinely engaged me about 5-10 years ago, hearing how Bury Town, Leiston and Lowestoft we’re competing in the Isthmian League.

Had a friend who wasn’t local, but boarded at Great Finborough when Simon was a teacher there and had some great stories of him being the rugby coach.

RIP Simon, will miss your voice from match day.

Indeed, he fought a very public fight..... on 10:17 - Feb 22 with 1737 viewsBloots

….against the injustices that he faced in life, in order to help others and make the world a fairer and better place.

Hopefully he leaves a legacy that doesn't die with him.

RIP.

Flip.

Just checked on iplayer, he was still on Life's A Pitch (albeit not sounding well at all) last week, and seven days later, he's gone.

Unmistakeable voice. There was something reassuring about hearing him at half time, all these many miles from home. That connection to the old life.

RIP

His great enthusiasm will be sadly missed and not many interviewers would get away with being as verbose as he was.

Didn't really agree with much of what he had to say whenever I heard him on Jeremy Vine on Radio 2 but his passionate opinions were what can make those things work so well.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Was just thinking the same thing. Always looked forward to his HT reports on iFollow. And I agree, there was something oddly reassuring about his voice. Brilliant use of language and knowledge of the game too. RIP.

Loved that commentary of him berating the referee at a local match for allowing a passback. My favourite memory of him. Sad loss.

And posted on Twitter yesterday. Lost my dad to pancreatic cancer and reading it really got to me. Very sad news. RIP.
