Time to wake up another stubborn manager 15:20 - Feb 23 with 874 viewsBlueknight85

Having thorughly analized Oxfords Goal on quest and our "play" in general over a number of games, the catalogue of mistakes as a team is as follows,
Gwion Edwards miss controlling the ball out of the air while under no preasure,
Nolan acting like a deer in headlights while it happens and not taking charge of the moment, everyone in general just ball watching and not marking their men,
Flyn downes casually jogging back while an unmarked No.8 within his reach breaks on our defense and gets the ball from an easy through pass,

Earl and woolfenden initially are marking their men while Chambers backs off the advancing No.8 and says heres my keys, my phone, mrs number & ill even put the ball in the net for you if you like. Seeing this happening Woolfenden has time to open up Snapchat to call Chambo an expletive before deciding to close the No.8 down himself,
Leaving his own man free at the back post,
Earl has stood there watching in disbelief wondering if he can Morph himself into Tommy Smith to clean it all up while his man wonders off to see his other unmarked buddy toward the back post,

Meanwhile Garbutts man has got away from him while Garbut was hanging out in the penalty area wishing he was Gareth Bale, Collects the easy pass in our own box from his No.8 a simple first time training ground cross to the 2 unmarked men that Holy wishes he was screaming at his defenders about. Easiest finish on the planet into an open goal.

Conclussion:
Manager is becoming tactically inept and sticking to the wrong system over and over again just to suit individual players while teams cut us open and we create the wrong kind of chances.
This can work against very poor teams who are there for the taking but catastrophic against others if we dont take the 1 or 2 good chances we do create.
Downes is doing too much and not there for his main Job.
Gwion Edwards should not be playing wing back the only thing he can do is run past players on the attack and put a cross in,
That being said we dont have the attackers to make the most of what he provides. We need low balls & 1-2's through the middle.

Chambers can be okay but needs a no nonsense physical presence next to him who closes down and attacks the ball. Earl is not a centre back and is completely lost in the middle. We dont need ball playing CB's certainly not two of them when we have defensive midfielers on the pitch and 2 "wing backs"

The players in this system are playing like a A noob on Fifa with broken L2 and R2 buttons who trys to rush all their team to the ball with the X button and random player switches.
(Sorry i can't translate this for xbox lovers)

The Fix:
Back to 442 or something like it. Certainly a back 4,
Even if it means chambers or Donacian at Right back until KVY is back.

Take your pick of any 2 Cental midfielders but one needs to focus on winning the ball cutting passes out and not letting them break on us easily through the middle.
I think Downes with Huwes or Bishop but we know how complicated that is.
Dozzel needs to be getting a chance too for those through balls and working through the middle i was talking about.

Tell Judge to suck it up we dont have the rest of the squad to use him as a top diamond/No.10 do what you want kind of role.
Iv got him left or right with Gwion edwards also left or right bearing in mind Judge played well from the right the other night and Gwions best games before Ipswich were from the left cutting in.

Holy or Norris in goal (they both made the same mistake this season) neither are good enough in every area we need a new keeper long term what ever happens.

(Wilson or chambers because both as bad as each other need another CB Big & physical.

Players in brackets are stepping in for injurys/suspensions

Holy

(Donacian) KVY - Wolf - Wilson - Garbut

Edwards - (Bishop)Huwes - Downes - Judge

(Sears) Norwood - Keane

Norris
Chambers
Skuse
Dozzel
Bishop
Jackson (Nolan)
Sears (Rowe)

I think the answer is playing a system that suits the players available and having a plan B (dare I even suggest a plan C) for if it isn't working, rather than having one system that everyone somehow is shoehorned into.

Then it is about having a number of players on the pitch who are able to and responsible for motivating and focussing the team especially at key stages in matches. How many of our players actually do that annoying thing of standing in the way of the opposition taking free kicks, leaving the ball when it could be returned when we want to slow the game down and all those sort of things? Not pretty to watch but we need to be more savvy at those sort of things.

We have been far too naïve as a team for far too long now. Opposition teams enjoy coming to Portman Road and playing. They shouldn't. They should hate it.
