Fair play to her I say, at least she's standing up for what she believes in.

But saying "The world is on fire", whist getting pissed down on in Bristol is not going to help her on Twitter.

One trick pony with no ideas and a family who has money and are trying to keep her in the limelight. At the end of the day she is achieving nothing. The powers that be dont want to be told by a child. You can see it on their faces. She needs ideas to back her shouting up.

Her idea is that we should pay attention to climate scientists who have loads of ideas about what to do.
It's a good idea.

People have said repeatedly on this thread what she is doing and it's about ending politicians getting away with saying the right things but then not doing enough.

But if you clearly don't want to accept that in the posts you are replying to then here's your chance to explain your point of view. What's your solution? And why isn't it being done already?

She needs some ideas. Not just keep shouting about it. Marching and coming out with the same speech isnt going to change anything. Unless she can move it alond with actual ideas, then there is no point to her. She seems a one trick pony, no more.

Over heard in a bar near the Prussian Academy of Science in 1921:

'I take your point, Steve. Einstein is advancing physics but what has he actually done with these 'ideas'. He needs to translate these things to tangible stuff, the one trick pony'.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

In the same way the he had nothing to say about antisemitism pre-2015, he had nothing to say about GT until the day she had lunch with JC. Then she became a target.

Indeed.

They don't want to be told by climate scientists either, clearly.

That's the problem.

So you don't actually have any thoughts of your own after all.

You just read naff publications.

And no proof to back up your claim about her parents manipulating her either.

I think that article is equally as barmy as the cult of Gretna what'shername.

She keeps saying no one is listening,

"Our leaders behave like children so it falls to us to be the adults in the room. They are failing us but we will not back down.

"It should not be this way but we have to tell the uncomfortable truth. They sweep their mess under the rug and ask children to clean up for them.

"This emergency is being completely ignored by the politicians, the media and those in power.

It isn't being ignored though so I don't know what she is banging on about, there are massive strides being taken by governments throughout the world to address climate change, things are and have been happening for ages and it's really coming along. She says that the world is on fire - it's not.

She is harming kids, she says that the planet is beyond repair. Children are affected by this and believe it. It really has turned into a mad cult, all these kids are being brainwashed but they still won't bloody walk to school, they'll travel half a mile in the car.

I may be an angry old growler but it might surprise you that I am aware of climate change and without yelling about it I watch what I do, this is mainly due to listening to reasoned debate. Prince Charles is my mentor on this sort of thing, not all this barmy cult like stuff. I'm calling it out as a pile of sh1te.

Well job done then. Not sure what the fuss is about if an agreement has been ratified and a third runway is being blocked ...

No-one has said politicians have done nothing but they need to do more and on a global scale. I'd hope you know that but it's hard to tell sometimes.

"the so-called adults need to stop talking and start doing" ... "No-one has said politicians have done nothing".

i think i'll leave you to argue with yourself about this, but do let me know what side you come down on.

Yes, things are happening but not nearly as fast and wide enough based on the climate data.

Thunberg and those engaged by her are a necessary part of the solution to get the powers that be to pull their fingers out.

And it's certainly less of a cult than the people saying climate activists are going overboard.

Don't be a numpty.

I'm clearly talking about a different level of stuff that needs doing. At the time it was signed but certainly in the last few years it's evident that the Paris agreement was too modest in its goals and too slack in its enforcement.

And I'm sure there's plenty that share your view.

Like most adults I don't particularly follow her or anyone else either, nor do I need to be told.

However, you don't have to look far to see some of the droid like responses that immediately crop up each time this is raised. The same people who claim she is ineffective rush to the forefront to criticise, whilst at the same time more often than not also claiming there's no real problem to worry about.

People like Pr.Charles have been speaking out for decades and now people like her are doing the same; there's nothing wrong with either approach and I suspect Charlie is on board.

I would assume the "world is on fire" line is metaphorical if we overlook the recent Aussie situation and the Amazon and the forests of Malay and Indonesia being destroyed at beyond an alarming rate. People are fighting for the patches of land they have lived on for centuries whilst ethnic cleansing takes place.

Wildlife populations are being diminished.

Certainly nowhere near enough is being done and it's right to keep it in the spotlight for as long as possible.

Jesus christ.

Everyone else has come up with the ideas.

That is her whole point.

Everyone else has been told what needs to be done and nobody has made a good enough effort to combat the issues. And that's why they are protesting.

She tells everyone else to listen to the scientists who have told us all, over and over again, every damn year, what we need to do.

But I do think her voice is being heard loudest and clearest, even above the calls from scientists. I think Greta would reach beyond the converted if she could almost take the scientists words and say then herself - convert to wind power, invest in electrical vehicles, stop devastating natural resources such as the Amazon Rainforest. Maybe even ask the difficult questions; does the world really need flights? How can air pollution be decreased?

I apologise if she’s saying this already and it is being ignored by the wider media but I do think, to expand her reach, she needs to propose solutions and put politicians on the spot about the potential of each.

I think she does a bit more than stands there and shouts "somebody do something".

"At the forum, she called for banks, firms and governments to stop investing and subsidising fossil fuels, such as oil, coal and gas. "Instead, they should invest their money in existing sustainable technologies, research and in restoring nature," she said."

"Initially, her protests focused on the Swedish government's climate targets".

But that's not how the mainstream media works, is it? You need a catchy headline and soundbites for the story to carry at all.

I'm sure New Scientist and other publications already go into much deeper discussion of these ideas, but Joe Public isn't going to be terribly interested.

What you say is true. What annoys me is that both my nieces bang on about it all the time. Both are then off on 2 holidays abroad on planes, trains and boats. When l mention this all l get off them is, everyone deserves a holiday. Their friends are just the same.. Its so hypocritical.
