Lambert can be sacked for free if fails to deliver top 6 finish 15:49 - Mar 4 with 7392 viewscbower

According to Daily Mail (no I'm not a regular reader of it but have seen the article!), Lambert can be dismissed for free if he fails to deliver top 6 finish. It claims that a clause in the contract extension could "backfire" on him. If true, Evans will not sack him until mathematically impossible and this would certainly be far too late for any short term appointment to make any difference to the outcome of our season. More likely, he will wait, sack him with 3 or 4 games to go and use the appointment of a new man to help (once again) boost the all important flagging season ticket sales. Alongside this, the promise of a bright new era and some "extra" funds (which will be the result of losing Downes and Wolf but only partially reinvested in the playing squad). Do you think we might just fall for this one more time

Erm …

If we are mathematically unable to make the playoffs and Lambert is sacked, that definitely means the new manager can't make a difference to the outcome of our season!

Lionel Messi couldn’t make a difference to the outcome of our season now.

Some of us said as soon as that 5-year contract was signed that it wouldn't have happened unless there'd been get-out clauses.

What on earth would be the point of a get out clause for not making the playoffs ?

You scrape in and then lose in the semis, so what has been achieved ?

it is not like a Formula 1 where your finishing positioning on the Saturday determines where you start in the race

the more likely scenario is Lambert wanting the opposite - telling Evans it will take a few transfer windows to put this right and it's not worth his time putting in the effort if Evans can pull the plug before he's been able to get going

utterly illogical

I have heard similar, although not free but significantly less than it would otherwise cost.

Presumably still along these lines?

I'd be surprised if that was the reasoning behind MM getting to see out his final year.

I'm sure if PL was sacked, say, this summer the pay-off would be a lot less than five years. Two years has been mentioned to me.

I actually misread that the other day as being that there weren’t any break clauses for 2 years, however presumably that still means any sacking now will be costing a lot more than it would have done under his previous contract? That extension really does look more and more daft as we slide further down the league...
