I had thought he'd been in Colditz or something about the Red Baron or some other war film, but a quick look at his IMDB appears to show that my first encounters with him would have been via Flash / Escape to Victory then as VHS took the world... The Exorcist.

I will remember him from 'The Exorcist' which with the possible exception of the 1978 F.A. Cup Final is the film that has made the greatest impression on me.

I actually had no idea what 'Ming The Merciless' was until reading the obituary.
