Bernie Saunders went on Twitter to make clear that, in the event that a coronavirus vaccine is made available, it should be free to all.
"You’d think that most people would believe that healthcare is a human right and the idea of a free vaccine would be completely uncontroversial. But of course, this is America we’re talking about. (You know, the land “of the free” where absolutely nothing is actually free).
Depressingly, Sanders has inundated replies by angry Americans who think that the vaccine shouldn’t be free. This seems pretty suspect seeing as we already know around 20 million Americans don’t have health insurance. Sanders was called a "communist" for insisting that any future vaccine should be free. "

The same nation where Republican congressman Matt Gaez mocked precuations being taken against the virus - On Monday, he was told to quarantine himself after learning that he came into contact with an attendee at CPAC, a major conservative conference, who tested positive for Covid-19.
A nation where the righties cannot quite grasp that the 20m or so US citizens who do not have health insurance will not receive the vaccine. So whatever Mr Bigot-Righty does there will be 20m possible carriers of this virus mixing with the rest of those with some kind of pet care plan insurance.
It may not worry him, but it sure will worry other countries about having a US (virus) carrier moored across the water.

It's a few people in a country of 350m who are acting like fools yet you don't highlight that - it's not the entire nation.
I think the vaccine should be free (although the flu vaccine isn't free in the US).
I just don't think you need to insult people in nearly every post you make. A large majority of them have you calling someone an idiot or stupid.

Absolutely. The comments sections are simply a way of attracting customers. Very little in them is ever worth wasting time on. Maybe in a few very rare cases there can be a meaningful interaction, but mostly it's just people shouting at pigeons. | |

So playing devils advocate, why would people who have been vaccinated against the virus be worried about mixing with people who haven't been vaccinated given they, are by definition, vaccinated against catching the virus.
There is a huge issue in the US with people thinking that if someone gets something for free that is diminishes their own work in some way. It's a long-held mindset and it's going to take more time for it to dwindle. You are right to highlight that, just doesn't need the insults.

He’s right on this point though.
Being forced into a debate about whether a vaccine should be free exposes a particular ignorant ideology at play here. Pence and his staff made the point about people with insurance receiving the vaccine but ignored the obvious follow up re: the many millions of uninsured Americans.
It’s so blindly and irrationally based as a disease control response, I’m surprised they’re not pushing a homeopathic remedy.
In many other respects, the US and Americans are as intelligent as anywhere else. In some areas, they’re ahead of the curve. But this is them collectively and systemically showing one of their stupid blind spots. |  |
