I don’t. MrsN does. Usually based on some letters in the registration.
The last one was called Grace apparently. Because of the classic advertisement of Grace, Space, and Pace. She was distraught when the car was written off.
This one is apparently called Michael because the registration has MHL at the end. Ignoring the fact that I am waiting for the V5 (thanks for the reminder!) so that I can transfer a private registration to it. It’s not a name or anything like that, I just wanted something with XFS on as that is what the car is. |  |

When I was a bit younger, I had two cars in a row with dubious number plates. Which was a pity as I was rather pleased with the cars, but my mrs nick named them;
Golf GTI - Number plate ended in FNY, consequently nicknamed fanny!

Mk5 Golf called Rhydian, then an Astra H hard top convertible called The Kaiser, then a Mazda 6 called Marilyn. Unfortunately the Mrs wanted a dog, so I had to swap Marilyn for a Honda CRV which so far remains nameless. Still trying to work out it's character in order to be able to give it a suitable name. |  |

Not me, but at the funeral of an elderly uncle, some years back, yarns were being told that involved several of the cars he'd had over the years.
It was along the lines of, "You remember Ol' Bess", the *whatever the old car was*.
And someone else would say, "No, Ol' Bessy was another car, a *whatever that one was*.
And so forth, until it sunk in that's what he called all his cars.
I've only felt strong affiliations with my early cars, but those were proper cars with character; cars that you knew would be pot-luck if they would start in the mornings.
You can't do that with modern motors. |  |

I once drove through the Forest of Dean whilst my ex-wife (and I think this was before we married, sometimes the signs are so obvious that we just do not see them) repeatedly hit me with a road atlas because I had been critical of her map reading.
