Seems dry enough to touch.

It's about a foot long and needs something.

I have mentioned to my wife that "the grass needs cutting" so that is the first stage.

That is not suggesting that my wife should cut it because I do it...just not sure when it will be.

Yep, took the top off it last weekend.

A couple of weeks later than in previous years, have been known to do the first cut at the end of February.

Take some blinkin mower to cut through that, souds more like a tractor & topper job!

Try strimming first? (if area's small enough).

No. Have been telling myself that I need to do it over the last 2/3 weeks, but just can't really be arsed at the minute.

Actually have a free weekend for once this weekend, so will try do it then.

Yes. Monday all day. First cuts of this year for some of my more discerning clients.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

There are parts of the South West where they cut all year round.

Certainly relatives in the Camel Valley in Cornwall cut all year round as it's fairly sheltered and their garden is south-facing.

Hopefully not too much then.

We just roughly strim. Gives the little insects a nicer place to live which feeds more birds, which gives our clumsy cat more things to chase.

Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me. Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing. Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial. Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid. Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

Same here. Way too wet to mow anyway, have only had 3 dry days at most in the last 3 months, & temps too low & daylight too short for it to dry out properly.

First cut tomorrow, it'll be a high cut as it's still damp underneath.

We've perfected the art of underwater mowing over here in the west. If I waited for dry days it'd never get done.

yep, best to just take around a third off at the most - rtoo much and you'll 'startle' the grass and let moss take hold

more a case of tidying it up

and as the man says - a high cut
