Rationing on 07:12 - Mar 15 with 4744 views | Churchman | I know that some chains are limiting what people can grab, but I would bring it in now for those items being stripped as soon as they appear. Some stuff like a complete new supply of Calpol that went straight into some woman’s trolley on Friday in Asda was probably taken to be resold somewhere which is outrageous. At the moment, it is the frail and vulnerable that have no access to basic things and that’s just wrong.
Rationing on 07:53 - Mar 15 with 4661 views | jas0999 | There is no need to ration if, and it’s a big if, folk stop being foolish and stock pile. If everyone just buys what they need then no problem. If folk continue this stupidity which has been seen throughout the UK over the past day or so of raiding certain products in the supermarkets then it will force the supermarkets to ration.

Agree, they should just refuse to serve anyone attempting to buy an excessive quantity of something. There's no need. We were in a shop yesterday and a guy was trying to find paracetamol for his wife who recently broke her ankle and needs it for pain relief. He was struggling to find any and he only wanted one pack. Madness.

Agreed, but good luck on stopping people being foolish. People are feckwits. It keeps being proven time and time again.

Friend of mine does ordering for the supermarket branch where he works. He heeded early warnings that there was going to be a run on certain items, so didn't utterly run out. Unfortunately, nobody predicted the loo-roll panic, so they did go.

By sheer coincidence mrs mj went to the cash and carry a week before it kicked off and bought 24 rolls So we’re ok for another day or so :)

By coincidence I'd ordered another consignment of dried peas (from these people: https://hodmedods.co.uk/ ) just before the proverbial hit the ventilation device. So I will at least have pease pudding to eat (assuming the gas supplies do not fail).

I still don't understand why so many people are hoarding loo rolls. Can anyone explain it?

The prospect of being stuck in your home for 2 weeks or more, along with the sight of the shelves being empty.

Started with an urban myth in China that loo rolls (or the cardboard bits in the middle) were made in Wuhan, so a shortage of supplies would happen due to the lock-down. This spread to other areas, notably Australia and now the UK, without anyone really knowing why it was happening. Once a panic starts, it's self-sustaining as nobody wants to be left without.

Agree totally, but I think a problem for staff refusing to serve people with excessive stuff is the undoubted abuse they may get off the kind of people selfish enough to behave like that. Maybe an extra security guard or two? More CCTV plus consistent store rationing policy? I don’t know but there are things that can be done to control the idiots. Regardless, I do hope that guy managed to find some paracetamol for his poor wife somewhere.
