Well considering we know it will take 12 months before we have a vaccine isn't that outcome obvious?

Yes but Boris has told us it’s fine and had a scientist stood next to him.

it is when you also apply a (very conservative) 1% mortality rate to those figures quoted.

Can you please point to the bit where, in the speech with the scientist, Boris told us it would all be fine?

They have been pretty consistent throughout in suggesting pretty much all of us will get it....with the associated maths that flow from that.

That the government haven’t taken out billboards to ram it down the throats of the public is not a great surprise to me.

That is still a worst case scenario (the words 'up to') and contingency planning documents have to be written with the worst case in mind, otherwise they are of little use.

The problem with leaked documents is they can lack context.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

At least 12 months before we see a safe vaccine. Here in Ireland we were told that at least 1.9 million people will be infected but then the Government admitted that projection was based on Flu not specific to Covid.

"The strategy of all countries is to delay that peak and stretch it out over a longer period of time, so that health services are better able to cope" This to me is the key point, to try to keep our health services running and avoid the terrible situation Italy is in currently. Namely deciding who gets ventilators based off age and underlying health conditions.

Here in Ireland, we have closed schools and Universities to reduce community spread, Paddy's Day parades cancelled and looking like as of tomorrow Pubs and Restaurants will be closed. Current restrictions are any indoors gathering of 100+ and 500+ public events are banned. I decided not to visit my parents who are both 70+ and pretty much stayed at home all weekend apart from supply shopping.

I found this podcast (Irish Media) very informative around what happened in Italy and why they are where they are:
https://castbox.fm/vb/239357641

Hopefully the measures in place over here will help stop the spread and keep our health services functioning. I'm pretty much resigned I'm not going to see my parents for a few months, let alone worrying how I will cope with the virus if I get it.

No. The Government need to stop it. The evidence against our strategy is becoming increasingly alarming.

No, you are continually posting childish jibes which are not very unhelpful.

Where is this alarming evidence against the strategy? There is nothing in that document about the strategy at all - it's an analysis of possible future infections. As discussed the strategy might be wrong but you've not provided any evidence of that.

In the other thread you literally lied about the government response. You said "we can stop this now but aren't". That is a complete distortion of the facts.

No Government can stop this, it's nature doing its thing. However I'm alarmed by the strategy the UK is taking, along with my fellow citizens. Allowing Cheltenham to go ahead was madness! Very risky to go for the herd immunisation strategy, it will overload health services. Just as happened in Italy who are miles ahead in this space...check out the podcast I linked as to how the Italian situation developed.

Callis there are people all over the Globe panicking. Unfortunately the situation is what it is, just take sensible precautions avoid mass gatherings, don't go to the pub, restrict your visits to vulnerable groups. Whatever the UK government do does not mean you cannot take extra precautions to help. Really it is down to the populace and enforcing social distancing.

Stay stafe and well

If the curve theory turns out to be the best approach (and evidence suggests it is). If we had a superfunded NHS and safety nets in place for the vulnerable I’d easily be less alarmed.

Where not going for the herd immunity strategy apparently. Which highlights the confusion around what’s happening due to poor communication.
