I hope his press conference tomorrow puts some strong business and vulnerable people support in place. Although I have no idea what could be done at this point. It’s political unchartered territory.
Why can’t we just have all the info now? Or is this like a Netflix series with a cliffhanger at the end of every episode? What’s episode 3? More information about the pumps teaser?

23 replies and not a single one actually addressing the links I posted.
Heads in sand. Worrying.
I’ll address your OP if you want, the one in which you say one thing in the first paragraph about it being unchartered territory and you don’t know what could be done, then in the second paragraph you completely make a mockery by asking “is this a Netflix teaser, will we get another cliffhanger tomorrow”
You have answered the question on the 2nd paragraph by your last line in the first paragraph, but you being you can’t just leave it there can you, most people would have respected you for that, including myself
There are questions that can and should have been answered already. Social measures are in their control. As are budgets and measures to protect people from the economy.
Other countries are doing it, but apparently we are different.

Business support info is coming today.
Why aren't we testing more has been covered (in short, we are past the point of really needing testing, the test needed now is one to show if you've had it already, which is on its way).
Schools are being kept open as when they shut it impacts hugely on everyone and means big impacts on Health and Social care. Reducing mass gatherings is sensible as they need to be supported by services such as police, ambulances etc. no need to spread already stretched services.
Plenty of good reliable information on many of your points, from different sources if you choose to find it and read it.
I agree that the communication from the Gov hasn't always been top notch but what an utterly unprecedented situation.

Sorry, you are going to have to run that one past me again.
'Plenty of good reliable information on many of your points, from different sources if you choose to find it and read it.'
However you may need assistance when communicating it...

No. I think you are wrong, as for Callis I haven't really commented that much on his stance, needless to say I think he's acting like a bit of a knob. I am sure he thinks I am one too.
Over the past year or two we have had many heated arguments on here over politics and although you may disagree it's as plain as day that Callis is using a worldwide pandemic to scream like a kid.
Many in the anti Boris camp are looking at this with a greater deal of balance and it's warming to see a sort of togetherness. We are in uncharted waters and we all need to support each other, support actions directed by the government experts and deal with things like grown ups.
Boris Johnson does not lay in his bed deciding what route to take in the morning, government relies on expert advice and from day one it has been advised that things will change and move as we go on. Individuals of course can also take their own actions.
There may be time for reflection down the line but I'm frankly sick of Armchair Anarchists.
'Armchair Anarchists.'
Who are screaming like a Banshee for greater government control.

So you are aware I assume that the chancellor is holding the govt briefing this afternoon where it is expected he addresses these issues even further? As with everything else this is a constantly changing landscape and what was right last week is not necessarily right this week, governments and financial will be evolving at this point as is the policy on how best to deal with the current situation the country and world find themselves in.
But thank you for not addressing the flaws in your OP where you openly admit to not knowing what the answers are but then spouting off t every opportunity with an opinion!
This is why people are angry at the government. Richard Horton is the editor of the Lancet, and has been consistently questioning the government for some weeks because they see what insights scientific research is showing and could see that the government weren't paying attention.
Crisis preventable? I suspect not, but we could have got a head start with preparations and made life easier for everyone.

As I said earlier, there is more than one trusted data source on this.
It's worrying how many heads are still buried in the sand on this.
If this was a cardiac arrest situation, you would be the person I designated 'second runner' that I send off on long treks around the building for useless bits of kit so I can keep you usefully out of the way of the people who are actually calmly getting on with it rather than have you flapping about the place getting under foot.
I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

This is why I'm at home and not working in healthcare. That's your job ;)
But a large chunk of the country have legitimate concerns that should be addressed. This is a discussion forum, not the front lines.
Genuine question: would you feel safer being tested? To me it seems like a no brainer based on what other countries have done. And how would school closes affect your work?

School closures would completely mess up the hospital MrsN works at.
She’s a midwife and they have already put out a letter saying that the shifts may change, and people may be expected to do overtime etc.
She’s been in to see her boss today to say she’s had IVF and is currently pregnant, therefore her own health is the most important thing. Especially as we have paid privately for the IVF as we couldn’t get it on the NHS. This is the third round.

That's heavy man, good luck with it all.
We should be arranging childcare for those who need it. Shouldn't even be up for debate.

What childcare do you propose?
The only thing which I think would be available would be like holiday clubs and that's no different from sending them to school and having them all mix together so why close schools in the first place?
It's not as black and white as you keep making out.

We should be doing all sorts of things.
Pulling together to help our communities.
Seb’s Mum has had to self isolate with him. I just dropped stuff round for them both. She’s an utter bellend but I don’t want either of them to suffer one bit.
Our company have stopped crew changes until 14th April. So I am around for a month at least. I’ve been putting my contact details through my neighbours doors, the ones that don’t normally see me and ask for help with stuff anyway.

There are plenty of Nannies out there or people who could be provided some level of compensation to look after children so parents can go to their job.

You think there are enough nannies to cover all the childcare that would be needed who don't already have roles or their own kids?
I don't think you are really grasping the levels required here at all.

Really? Have you ever tried to arrange childcare?
Not as easy as you seem to think, just because you live in London don’t assume that the rest of the country is the same

But how many times do you want to be tested? Just because they test you today and its negative doesnt mean you wont catch it tomorrow. There are 60million people in this country to test everyone every day isnt feasible.
I think you need to put your sensible head on

True, but shouldn't they be tested for CoVid-19 before they are placed in contact with others?

And the DBS or PVG checks need to be run too.
I don't think it is true - there aren't enough nannies to cover everyone who will need to continue to go to work unless you are putting lots of kids with each nanny. If you are doing that then why bother closing the schools especially given the schools are designed to handle lots of kids.
You are of course correct on the checks which would need to be run.
