The US looks in particular trouble with Covid-19 13:30 - Mar 23 with 3159 viewsDarth_Koont

They've got a faster doubling of cases than anywhere apart from the initial outbreak in Wuhan. Clearly this may be down to testing/reporting irregularities but if it's already spreading worse than even Spain and Italy then that's going to create massive problems for them.

And really not the best situation to be overseen by a narcissistic liar.

They also don't have a National Health service... and Obama Care was derided. No insurance - no health care.

Part of that is because they are ramping up from a very low level of testing.

The US is looking very bad as you say.

Lack of early testing probably didn't help and as you say - having a fool in charge is only going to make things worse. Probably also certain issues about people with healthcare still expecting to have elective procedures and basically anything ahead of other people needing C-19 tests and treatment.

Could also simply be a function of population - some worrying rumours coming out of India as well which are backed up a little by the fact they have decided to fully close off Delhi.

Indeed.

Although I'm sure the private clinics and insurance providers will largely go out the window for this emergency. But nothing surprises me anymore.

But, even in a best case, if healthcare isn't organised along national or even state lines and you need to coordinate masses of private facilities then of course that becomes incredibly difficult to manage effectively.

Possibly. But even with a lower test rate than say the UK or Germany their climb of confirmed cases is still steeper.

They were doing very few tests, now that number is rapidly increasing (often through the efforts of individual states and cities). So the number of detections is bound to rise also.

India is the country that worries me the most, if it takes hold there in any of their mega-cities, the casualty numbers will be vast.

I didn't realise until yesterday that India only spends ~1% of it's GDP on healthcare.

That's shocking.

Did they not fully close of Delhi to see how effectively they could do it? I am sure on the bbc news last night at 10 they said about it being a test

Don't think so - if you google nothing says about it being a test, everything says due to C-19.

Not convinced India are being very thorough/truthful with their numbers but we will see.

The Economist at the weekend reported that India was only testing people on arrival in the country and not those who were ordinarily resident. That's going to be a bit problem given hygiene standards and pollution levels in large parts of the country.

I've seen the measures proposed for ships arriving in the country, they are thorough and sensible and I presume those for airports are similar but that leaves some large gaps.

Most of the remaining flights are all about repatriating folks to their home countries.

Emirates airlines are ceasing to fly from Wednesday but I fully expect Governments to charter flights to mop up their last citizens stuck all over the world. But from next Friday you are where you are... unless transporting goods / freight
