In like 18 months when this is all said and done do you think it will be the end of this greeting? Couldn't really imagine walking into a conference/board room doing the elbow thing.

Boardroom? You'll be fashioning jewellery out of sheep bones in 18 months and huddling in a cave for warmth.

Unless you get out of the travel industry ...

No. Sooner we can safely go back to normal the better. Will take time.

Hopefully the habit of fist bumping will have seen its day.

Fecking embarrassing to see grown-ups doing that.

You have no evidence that it will be all over in eighteen months. Unless you're relying the analysis from that highly skilled epidemiologist donald trump.

Because that's a beautiful date.

It's ok, he understands the science.

In fact, scientists are often amazed at his knowledge of these things.

They say to him, "How does he know so much?"

Worked in Nigeria during the ebola scare and they switched from hands to elbows. Once the danger passed people slowly returned to hand shakes. Would expect similar.

I have seen some of his supporters' comments online and some of it is nothing short of remarkable.

One was slagging off the Guardian for making up quotes despite there being a link to him saying the very words attributed to him.

Calling it a blind spot doesn't cover it.

Film on atm, 'Contagion'.

It's a bit of a way into it now on ITV2 +1 but is being repeated next week.

Some of it is quite close to the bone so far.

In the written form, that question doesn’t have quite the same tone or emphasis that it probably does if they said it to him directly, does it?

The scientists have had a long day. Maybe give them a break.

They're dealing with a lunatic who wouldn't recognise the grammar issue anyway.

Unless he once had an uncle who was a linguist.

Phil knows a joke about that.

Shaking hands has always been a great way of transferring germs. The Japanese bow is the answer, but I doubt many other countries will adopt it. The elbow-bumping thing is plain ridiculous.

I watched a bit of that last night - we had a helicopter rigjt overhead and with mrs ullaa having a cold - it all felt like we were watching in 3d ultra stereo ultra vision VR and got a bit much! Had to turn over.

I hope they do go to the bin just so I never have to deal with those pass agg alpha male knobs who think trying to crush your hand is normal behaviour ever again.

There was one guy I used to do business with whom I nick-named "bonecrusher" on account of his ridiculously strong grip. I studiously avoided shaking his hand after that. He must have taken the advice that a limp handshake is a sign of weakness to extremes.

I've never met anyone who does it who didn't turn out to be an arse. I mean, the concept in itself seems so silly to me. I MUST CRUSH THIS MAN'S HAND TO SHOW MY DOMINANCE. Why not just piss up my leg whilst you're there?

Agreed...but it’s not just hand shaking that’s the problem in the corporate world. Over the last 10 years there’s been a definite increase in kissing and general over tactile behaviour too before meetings.

There’s one particular female I work with who insists on hugging and kissing everyone she meets, even when she only saw them yesterday.

Not necessary.

If this puts a stop to that, some good will have come from this.

I feel weird and awkward about people who kiss too. I think it's a cultural or generational thing that needs to die out. I find it even weirder when it's someone you've just met. I've certainly had incidents where it's happened outside the work place which have led on to obvious passes from people I'd rather not.

Shaking hands comes from a time when people had to prove they didn't have a gun or knife in their hand, seems a bit outdated these days...
