TWTD hive mind - what do you make of this point of view??? 23:10 - Mar 29 with 4309 viewsunstableblue

I don’t agree with this. But, I can only see this argument growing as we enter 8 weeks of lock down and economic turmoil.

The obvious answer is contagion unchecked would decimate the NHS, but lock down of elderly and vulnerable perhaps has merit.

It was also disappointing, but not at all surprising, to read Trevor Kavanagh's take in the S*n this morning (I know, I know). Apparently it's all being blown out of proportion, it's not that big a deal and our focus should be getting back to work to save the economy.

If this is the sort of thing the nation's most-read paper feels free to publish at this time, then they should, amongst others, be held accountable for encouraging the reckless behaviour of others.

Incredibly he also lambasts the media's sensationalism over the subject, despite his paper being one of its biggest proponents.

But that's what you get for reading that rag I guess.

It concerns me that we are not allowed to question what governments all over the world are doing. He has an opinion, he puts it in a newspaper and you can agree or disagree.

A paper should "feel free" to publish whatever opinion it likes about what our government are doing.

You are allowed to question it, no one's said you're not. I'm merely pointing out that it's irresponsible for someone who knows nothing about the science to effectively encourage further irresponsible behaviour which at the moment goes against medical/government guidance.

That's only true up to a degree though.

If someone knows nothing about the science or the modelling then publishing something which is clearly wrong might do far more damage than good.

Context is important here.

It's also past the point where it's acceptable to say "it's an opinion" on a great many subjects. An opinion without merit or evidence is not equal to one based on evidence and expertise.

Not really sure there is any need for pedantic replies.

I am also not referring to the Spectator article - if you look at DBS post it's in reference to a thread he started a couple of days ago where he was downplaying things again.

This is the part where you pretended to know that 1300 people a day are now dying in Italy in total without knowing any such thing.

"The average for the last 5 days in Italy is around 700 so he's in the ballpark.

Perhaps if you had the facts right you'd stop making comparisons aimed to play down the issues?

Those 600 people will also have died on average so it's actually doubled the daily death rate. See, it's not hard to manipulate stats if you have no interest in the truth or context.

You really need to stop this.

I am going to have to learn how to do this link thing the clever way!

That's still a misrepresentation of what you said as your figures included deaths from all sources. I was pointing out those deaths still happen and C-19 deaths would be on top of those with a small overlap.

50 doctors dying would not be within those normal deaths.

As I said in the post you quoted, please stop it.
