Furlough the players. They can't do their job currently, they should already be furloughed.

It's not that simple though is it - the employee has to agree to be furloughed.

No they don't

OK technically they do but in reality they don't have a great deal of choice and is more process formality

If players are furloughed, would they be entitled to move to another club, for free?

no the point of furlough is continuous employment and the club would hold the registration

Why?

Why should a league 1 or 2 player accept a pay cut? I don't anyone that has had a pay cut as a result of this, I know plenty of furloughed or unable to work SE that is affected but no one that has agreed a pay cut. As a chunk of a players wages is bonuses they presumably have all had a cut anyway

Because if they don't and clubs go bust, there'll be out of a job.

That's Arnie's point, they're behaving in an entitled way here. Some other employed people are not having wages topped up to normal levels. Furlough is there to make sure people have enough to still get by and it's up to the employer to decide whether they top up the wages or not. Some employers can afford to do so, others can't. If football clubs can't afford it, they can't afford it. They need to fall back on the furlough mechanism in place in order to save the clubs.

It's not a dig at the footballers, it's just how it is.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

So, we're still stuck with Donacien and Nsiala then?

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

For normal people it is, yes. Good luck making a footballer redundant though. And even if they easily could, they aren't going to get rid of an asset with value for nothing.

Can you show me where a footballer is behaving in an entitled way compared to any other of the employees in the country?

Is that the case for a market like football though?

If club A is going to furlough all players and club B isn’t and a player for club A is aware club B would be interested in him, is there anything stopping said player refusing to be furloughed and effectively forcing termination of contract, and then signing for the other club?

Genuine question as I am unclear how this would work

I would imagine clubs like Norwich and Bournemouth are also at huge risk of things going wrong. The uncertainty about if they will receive any more, or how much they will receive of remaining tv money must be a big worry.

Probably half the Prem clubs could easily survive until this is over with their bank of savings and assets, but I don't know how well-run the rest are.

Edit: Burnley came out and said they expect to lose £50 million and they are apparently one of the better financially-run clubs.
