YouGov latest opinion poll this morning on 17:48 - May 8 by gazzer1999 | Your arrogance knows no bounds does it? I have no fake indignant outrage I merely asked you to show some class with your outrageous comment. I can only assume living in America has removed what if any you already had. I am far from happy with the situation in the UK, however we are where we are at the moment and yes it is a shambles. What I do fail to see is why you are constantly having a go at the government, it is the health workers that are treating these people not the prime minister. Just because you are old and live run a care home does not make you a conservative. Get behind the country rather constantly carping about it. |
I assume from your reply he has called you an idiot. Just put him ignore, that’s what I did. He insults and abuses people and then has a go at them for not “contributing positively”

Thing is, most of the folk in care homes don’t vote any more. If they did, I’m in absolutely no doubt that things would have been very different for them. They have been left to die without any thought.

100% agree. Yet we still have folk pushing the whole 'well no other government could have done any better, they've done the best they could' line. Or even worse, all this '#JustAnotherLeftieBumFest' business. It makes me wonder, what exactly do the Conservatives have to do to get some people to wake up and start questioning them? YouGov latest opinion poll this morning on 13:52 - May 7 by monytowbray | Also I thought Starmer was Labour’s saviour and would win an election hands down? I worry Labour’s best chance in many years will be 2017, yet was sabotaged both internally and those who wanted a more neoliberal leader. |
He's been in charge for a month and there's a global pandemic happening FFS. If it's like this in a year or so, fair enough, but give the guy a chance. I gave Corbyn a chance, stupidly I voted for him first time around. He spent his first month either running away or getting pissy with journalists. Didn't you call Ed Miliband a Blairite? You've now completed the "I joined the Labour Party in 2015 to vote for Corbyn" buzzword bingo with the neoliberal slant, maybe you could join the Green Party?

The tie colour thing is a very simplistic view of things. The notion that a more centrist Labour is exactly the same as the Conservatives is utter nonsense. Labour under Blair introduced a lot of Socialist policies (two prominent ones are the Minimum Wage and SureStart). If he hadn't gone mad and backed Bush in Iraq (which I can never forgive him for), I wouldn't be surprised if we still had a Labour Government now. Sorry for the arsey tone of my post, it just irks me when some people who joined Labour in 2015 to vote for Corbyn are very intolerant of anyone not deemed 'left' enough (or you're a 'Blairite' or 'Neoliberal'). Labour has always been a broad church whether Corbyn supporters like it or not and that model has been the only one that has won elections (even the Atlee Governement of 1945 was a broad mixture of people from the left and right of the party). I think you're going to be very disappointed in your political life if you're not a bit more pragmatic. I've seen some of your views on Capitalism and fully agree with a lot of it. This country will never vote to get rid of Capitalism though, we are an extremely consumer driven nation (even the often cited 'Nordic Model' countries use Mixed-Mode economies). It is a grossly unfair system though, but if you believe a Starmer led Labour Government would be no different to tackling inequality compared to the current shower I think you're a bit deluded. Put it this way, Labour could get in and actually make some changes for a fairer society, as they always have done to varying degrees. The Green Party might fit in more with your personal political views (fair enough), but they have no chance of making any meaningful changes to the lives of the worst off in this country.

And Starmer is far from being a Blairite. He's much closer to Harold Wilson than to Blair. In fact he was a thorn ion Blair and Brown's side when he was a partner in Doughty Street Chambers. It's one of the reasons he was given the job as head of the CPS. Stamer is very much a pragmatist though. Could you imagine his predecessor writing a leader in the Torygraph saluting the VE veterans or speaking in such positive terms about what the Queen had to say last night? He'll reach the old working class Labour vote who deserted the party last year whilst attracting floating voters which is needed to win the next election. I can't believe people are moaning about his polling numbers nearly five years before a General Election and when he is only a few weeks in the job.

Apologies, I thought from how you were speaking that you were a member. Corbyn put forward a radical manifesto and there is some good stuff in it. I wanted him to succeed, but going back to my other post the British electorate rejected it. There was just too much in there and it wasn't feasible to many people. Was he hamstrung? Yes, but he couldn't even defeat May and she was bloody dreadful, he was the master of some of his failings not just the media. This is not a dig, I'm genuinely interested what you hope to get out of voting for the Green Party? I think you're right that Starmer will not bring forward the radical change that Corbyn would, but as per my other post even bogey man Tony Blair introduced a lot of Socialist policies and Starmer is firmly to the left of him. I could ask the same question of the Labour Party Members who purposely sabotaged the last election. I think it’s a bit rich to spend 5 years doing that and then ask the “what would you prefer?” option. Frankly neither at this point. I’m disillusioned with democracy, it doesn’t really exist anymore.
