Trump is actually quite dumb isn't he? on 10:41 - May 11 by BlueBadger
As 'bad'? No. As incompetent? Definitely.
Not as incompetent either. Unfortunately you and others swallowed the incompetence narrative hook, line and sinker from outflanked Labour MPs, apparatchiks and journalists who have either left Labour politics or are now being revealed as complicit in manufacturing and stoking the narrative.
It didn't even take much effort to understand what was going on. So you're either gullible or it was what you wanted.

I refuse to believe that Trump is thick — he must have something about him to get where he is.
Remember seeing something about how he deliberately aims to talk ‘stupid’ in the belief that that’s what people want. He’s probably right.
He's got arrogance/confidence which is probably also connected with him starting off in the family business of a huge New York property portfolio. Which became some of the most valuable real estate in the world at a rate many times over inflation.
I see nothing that says he's smart at all. And a lot that says he's thicker than average.

He's a very stupid man (in rapid cognitive decline) who has lived in a protected bubble his whole life and has never faced a single consequence for anything he's ever done. This gives him a very weaponised form of arrogance which he uses incredibly effectively, even if he doesn't really know that he's doing it.
However, for all that, the assumption that he's a big dumb idiot being voted for by thick people is what won him the race in the first place and will probably see him win again. If you're someone living in a rural part of America who used to have a job in an industry that's seen serious decline, where you've been ignored for years by almost every politician under the sun, and then one day some guy rolls up and tells you directly that he'll make things better for you and together you can 'make America great again', that will set off some spark of hope.
You can argue that people have been beaten around and conditioned to believe the sort of ultra-Patriotic stuff Trump comes out with but President Deals took full advantage of that. Even though Trump is clearly well part of the 'establishment', to some people he seems a world away from the stuffy corporate politicians who they have no connection to at all.
Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Yes, you're absolutely right about his start in life, wealth, how it could be higher with more competence etc, but that doesn’t explain becoming president. There are lots of wealthy people who haven’t done that and it’s a job that only becomes available once every 4 years….
Maybe it’s just showmanship, but again, I don’t think that’s enough to make him stand out.

Partly the exposure he got through the ratings topper of 'The Apprentice USA', in which he was the Alan Sugar figure, I reckon. I think that kind of long-running exposure kind of seeps into peoples' consciousness, as him being *the* power figure of the time.
He must also have a skin as thick as a dozen rhinos - no-one wants to look a complete & utter fool do they?!

Fair point - can't have hurt him being on that show. true to about the thick skin, or at least the ability to get upset, but then place at the back of the mind immediately.
