Blimey this Starmer chap's a bit good... 13:10 - May 13 with 4960 viewsuefacup81

Less than an hour after PMQs and this has already been sent to Boris:

It's almost as if he had 99% of the letter already drafted, and just needed to know precisely what to quote Boris has having said.

Ah, the sight of competence. Welcome back The Labour Party.

Seems like a good time saver to have a 'Boris Lied' template saved and ready to go each week, where the new lie(s) can quickly be typed in and sent off.

Pronouns: He/Him/His. "Imagine being a heterosexual white male in Britain at this moment. How bad is that. Everything you say is racist, everything you say is homophobic. The Woke community have really f****d this country."

I suppose the big question is whether Boris will freely return to correct the record. If not, one would hope that the Speaker has the cojones to bring him before the house to do so.

If Starmer starts using stuff like this as a very effective weapon (already having proven to Raab that you lie/obfuscate at your peril), I imagine it's likely that PMQs could start taking a hugely different tone in future.

He's excellent.

It is highlighting how poorly the government has been held to account over the last few years though.

It's excellent to see the opposition back and functioning well, especially at this most crucial of times.

You mean to say it's good to have a Labour Party that's being led more effectively than a local allotment committee? Fully agree!

Just needs to couple his undoubted QC skills with principles and values worth voting for.

Not saying he won't. But if this is just about playing the game of politics like a top barrister could then this is ineffective opposition of a different kind.

It's an interesting situation - Johnson is likely to be embarrassed by Starmer on a weekly basis for the forseeable future, at least until the rest of his mob are allowed in to heckle and jeer, and assuming Johnson continues to show up for it.

But will it matter with the unwashed masses anyway? The fact that Johnson is a gibbering idiot was surely priced in when they voted for him.

I think all the principles and values he really needs are just not to be an egotistical w*nker. He really doesn't have to promise to re-nationalise the moon or whatever.

Completely contradicted my post above, but whatever, I'm not Robert Peston am I.

While Starmer has been brilliant so far it unfortunately won't make any difference to the masses. They are brainwashed into voting Tory by our predominantly biased and right-wing press. Until that changes the government in this country will be a blue one.

The last time we had a Labour government was because the redtops backed Blair.

An electorate that can vote in Boris as PM and the Tory party with their recent track record and even more so after Boris' lame and embarrassing performance as foreign secretary will not be influenced by being torn apart in PMQ's even if it shows the government to lie consistently. We already knew this!

On a general note from this specific example, I'd generally like to see more of this from all sides.

You shouldn't just be able to lie outright at PMQs or other times and just "get away with it", especially when the statement is so clearly wrong.

One of the things that really bugs me generally about our current system is that it's:

1) Ask a question.
2) Get an answer.
3) Repeat steps 1 and 2.

There is never a time where the person asking the question can follow up on the response. Obviously you can't have an infinite debate on every question but it leads to really silly scenarios where you basically can almost entirely ignore a legitimate question to make a funny remark and the move on.

This move proves that he is a good barrister.

We already know that.

He needs to prove that he is a good politician, and a viable leader of the opposition.

Pedantry will wear thin (although Twitter is built on pedantry), but it's a useful party trick if not over used.

This isn't pedantry though. It's saying something that is blatantly false.

The bar of being "better than the Tories" is so ridiculously low anyway. No,I mean prínciples and values that would result in progressive and modern policies and not just New Labour and a wasted opportunity all over again.

Holding a dishonest Prime Minister to account for lying to parliament is not some kind of underhand political maneuvering.

It is the bare minimum we should expect from the Leader of the Opposition.

Its about time the leader of the opposition shows BOJO to be the incompetent buffoon that he is.

People could ridicule Corbyn and make him a cartoon. You cannot do that with starmer, this will allow Labour to finally progress and hopefully get rid of these useless Tories, especially the PM.

The same point is true as it was the last time you made this point though. You cannot enact change if you aren't in power.

The only time that has happened in 40 years was under New Labour. Might not be perfect but once you are in power you can be more progressive. You can do nothing if you aren't in power.
