McAnthony saying we are one of six teams who want to finish the season?? on 20:01 - May 14 by BloomBlue
Maybe we think finishing it would at least stop all the potential legal battles. Let's say they stop the season P'boro aren't promoted and then half way through next season P'boro finally win their legal battle doesnt that run the risk of throwing next season out?
Also financially we'll be better off playing and not needing to refund STs as well
What are the chances? Giving us a 5% would be extremely generous at the moment but behind closed doors maybe our alleged quality will tell. Maybe the pressure will be off and we can put a run together like the first 11 games we played. Before anyone replies calling me deluded, do try and actually read what i've said rather than what you would like me to be saying so you can bitch at me.
Or maybe we want to complete the season because Evans wants a much smaller pay off for Lambert?

It's a risk free shot at promotion for us.

Yep. Season ends today we aren't promoted. Play the rest of the season then there is a remote chance we will be promoted.
He’s only pushing for this as Peterborough would finish outside the play offs if PPG was enforced. I can’t see the league being completed, the fact that many L1 sides could go to the wall because of the financial burden if the season was played to a finish makes it an unlikely suggestion.

I suppose none of the club's have said WHEN the season will finish - they're not necessarily embracing behind closed doors or players together before it's safe to do so.

We've left ourselves far too much to do but our 8 game run in does include 4 home games against Southend, Bolton, Rochdale and MK Dons who have only won 10 out of 70 away games between them this season (losing 47 of those).

Could it be to do with clauses? Manager, staff and players? Will there be reductions/non-renewals triggered if the season ends but not if it is declared void or able to be challenged?
That seems to be the only measure I can think of which motivates Evans here.
Maybe, but I suspect the driver is simply that we believe we have a chance, no matter how small, of closing the gap

On the form of the last 20 games, we wouldn't even close that gap (on goal difference) if we were the only team playing and accruing points.
For the sake of your sanity:
I suppose the argument is players who were out injured will be back; logically that should strengthen us and, if every team has to rotate anyway, the effects of Lambingo won’t be so harmful.
But that is a reach considering our form leading up to the suspension.

I’m under no illusion that our chances of making the play offs are remote. But as J2 says, it’s a free hit.
If we were on a losing run, playing awful football in the bottom three and seven points from safety with 8 games to play then there is no way we accept the season ending today.

Surely if games are played behind closed doors that issue still exists?
Not read the small print on the 2019/20 season tickets but would imagine this specific circumstance isn't covered and it's more a moral issue than a legal one as to whether they refunded anything.
A load of people have just bought season tickets for 2020/21 with no suggestion of refunds and compensation in the form of streams for the games, cup tickets and tickets for friends/family in the event of games being played BCD.

Why wouldn't season ticket holders get a refund, games will be behind closed doors
In the unlikely event that the rest of the season is played out behind closed doors I imagine season ticket holders will be able to watch games via iFollow.

….basically it's nothing to do with league positions, according to him obviously.
Money innit.
The costs to finish the season would be £300k to £400k, once you take into account the testing required.
The costs to not finish the season would be £700k to £800k, once you take into account ticket refunds, sponsorship refunds, solidarity payments etc.
Depending on the number of season ticket holders, clubs could be looking at a net loss of up to £500k if they don't finish the season.
A lot depends on whether clubs have put players on furlough.
And his £700-£800k estimate is based on around 1/3 of our number of season ticket holders and (I would assume) sponsorship/corporate deals that bring in less revenue.

I wondered the same thing. Maybe the Lambert clause rumour is true, and Evans doesn’t want the legal wrangle of trying to let him go when the season didn’t officially finish.
Meanwhile Lambert has to pretend he still thinks we’re in with a shot because that’s the stance he’ll take in court if it goes that far.

So five teams that would miss out on promotion if the league was ended today (based on ppg), but still in with a shot of promotion if the games were played. And errr, Ipswich
Bless us
I assume Kane Vincent-Young may actually be back so we will be banking on him returning us to and tearing it up?
We do actually have a lot of the weaker clubs still to play at home so squeezing into 6th whilst unlikely isn't completely out of the question
Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

Yeah but it's Ipswich so we'll end up thrashing Portsmouth and losing 1-0 in the last minute of the game to Bolton after we have had 90% possession and 20 shots on target!

Do you really believe clubs are going to offer season ticket holders refunds if the rest of this season isn't played? At best, they will give people a discount on next season, but the probability of football being played with crowds in 2020 looks low. Everyone is going to have to take a hit - owners, fans, players, broadcasters, sponsors etc.
