EFL clubs need Premier League bailout to avoid ‘cliff-edge’ on 23:08 - May 14 with 799 views | MattinLondon | If the PL bails out the EFL what will be the cost? Not in terms of finances but in terms of structure - B Teams in the league structure, reduced relegation, possibly even forbidding transfers/loans from foreign clubs. The PL is a bully and if it smells blood they won’t ever let go.

The football part of the community needs to regroup and decide on priorities, bottom to top, top to bottom, whatever. I don’t think my kids are likely to play competitive football again for a long time. Same for the non league team they’re in the youth programme for. Lots of those clubs will die soon. There isn’t going to be football that we are used to for a long time. So what’s the fundamentals? I hope sense prevails and the bottom of the pyramid is prioritised. Ain’t going to happen though. Far more important that the reserve keeper of a division three club earns more in a week than the average person does in a year. Glass almost empty.

Probably the bigger financial stress will be in the Championship than the Premier League. The latter will get closed doors games going at some stage to secure broadcasting income, but this won't make sense for the Football League, beyond trying to make sure 3 of their clubs get promoted. If no football is played with crowds in 2020 - which seems quite likely - I don't see how Football League clubs can survive without enormous injections from their owners or huge pay cuts for their players.
