Just seen this “retro shirt” and I have questions 17:39 - May 16 with 1300 viewsKeno

Did we played in blue and whites stripes in 1888 (where is factors when you need him)
Was that the badge then
Did Umbro do our kit then?

Other than that look legit

We did play in blue and white stripes. But not in an umbro kit with a round neck collar.

Those 1930's kits with the white sleeves look classy, would like a modern version of that.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

This is the 1889 kit and I imagine they didn't change them every season back then, so I would guess this is what they were wearing the previous season. I assume that kit is an attempt at a modernised version of that.

You look rather splendid as the goalkeeper, Phil, with your bushy moustache.
I suppose you were described as custodian of the onion bag.

I think the term 'onion bag' was seen as a bit too French and fancy dan in those days.

Incidentally, I see that team group includes William Sherrington but not his brother Charles, the only Nobel Prize winner to have played for the Blues.

I’m sure I was told once that a Town used to play or were based at Broomhill road Ipswich when that photo was taken ?!

Broomhill was the ground between 1877 and 1883. They used to change at the Inkerman pub.

'The only Nobel Prize winner to have played for the Blues'....to date.

I'd have said he was the only Town player to win a Nobel Prize, as that represents the order in which the two things happen.

Some might say 'or somebody with more money than sense'.

Obviously, I wouldn't say that.
