Has the NHS ever let you down? (n/t) on 11:21 - May 17 by ElephantintheRoom | Yes many times individually - and collectively. As a pre-war concept that more or less allowed smoking doctors in tweed to dispense a yellow linctus and refer occasionally to their betters in a local hospital it was outdated and inadequate by the 60s. The shambolic health care system in this country which has fractured hospital medical care from community medical care - both inward looking and underfunded hamstrung by their own budgets, -- and both .distanced from an essentially non-existent or outsourced care in the community system which is totally unfit for purpose is a national scandal long in the making. Anyone who has had the misfortune to have elderly relatives or suffer a somewhat unusual and expensive to treat disease has been more or less excluded by the NHS for decades |
That is absolute rubbish.

When you think that GPs alone see a million patients a day its likely than on occasions some people receive poorer care than others. Sorry to hear of people's experiences on hear but for the vast majority of the time the vast majority of people get good care free at the point of delivery.

Erm - my opinion based on an entire career working in a fractured dysfunctional and callously underfuneded system and seeing parents and in-laws treated outrageously ineptly is total rubbish...whilst your sweeping garbage is sound? What sort of fantasy land do you inhabit? I do admire your GP seeing a miilion patients a day... he or she will be even busier than those mythical 18,000 contact tracers

I must say my experience with my Mother’s treatment couldn’t be more different. She was diagnosed with lung cancer in her mid 80s. She had all sorts of scans to establish this both at Ipswich and Colchester hospitals. Once diagnosed she was referred to the specialist unit at Norwich and after a few tests there she was offered surgery to remove part of her lung. She actually rejected that option (somewhat to my annoyance at the time!), mainly because it was very high risk at her age, despite the Consultant giving only 3-6 month life expectancy without it. As a consequence, she ended up back in the charge of Ipswich Hospital who then organised Radio therapy instead. Fortunately this seems to have reduced the cancer and has since shown no new signs of growth. Since the radio therapy she’s had regular scans, initially at 3 month intervals, then 6 month and now yearly. She realises she’s still living on borrowed time but she’s still here, three years on and still relatively independent. I must say I can’t fault any of the hospitals she’s be treated at and I’m enormously grateful for all the efforts they have made. [Post edited 17 May 2020 14:39]

Has the NHS ever let you down? (n/t) on 08:43 - May 17 by GaryCooper | Collective praise and collective responsibility? The NHS were wholly responsible for the death of my father, ineptitude at every turn, in any other situation manslaughter charges would have been made, the police would not entertain it. |
I must add to the previous statement that my now deceased Mum had exceptional treatment at Papworth and her life was prolonged.

I didn't rubbish your opinion. People have had poor care and I'm sorry about that. Most of the time that's not the case. The NHS isn't perfect and could always improve. My own care as a cancer patient with a long term condition has been good.
Has the NHS ever let you down? (n/t) on 14:20 - May 17 with 520 views | Oldsmoker | On the plus side they've fixed a collapsed lungs 3 times and nursed me after a mini-stroke. On the negative side, I had an 11:20am blood test and it was 11:35am when they called me. Absolutely fuming.

Has the NHS ever let you down? (n/t) on 16:15 - May 17 with 487 views | jeera | I was recommended for surgery I wish I hadn't had. And following surgery the lack of aftercare caused me life-changing problems. Apart from that, generally good, lots of nice people all doing a great job for the right reasons. I've dealt with a few unpleasant types but the NHS isn't exempt from employing a mixture of people.

Has the NHS ever let you down? (n/t) on 16:47 - May 17 with 473 views | Leaky | No! My son had a heart & lung transplant 6 years ago & is doing fine. I had a triple heart bypass I have had a few niggles but I to am fine. I think the front line NHS staff are brilliant. However the back up staff & admin needs improving. My son had a back up appointment at Royal Papworth come through 2 days later he had an appointment at UCL for the same day. How do you get from Cambridge to Euston in an hour. He couldn't cancel either appointment as he could only leave voice mail message. There fore an appointment was missed that another patient could have used.
