Any tech types 14:36 - May 17 with 2725 views | jeera | Please. The sound on my laptop has packed up. This includes Bluetooth added devices not working. I have tried updating drivers and uninstalling/reinstalling. They don't tend to have separate cards do they? It's going to be a motherboard thing isn't it. Any advice gratefully received. Edit: no I haven't pressed the mute button. [Post edited 17 May 2020 14:37]

I was wondering that last night but didn't have anything at hand to try. At your prompting I've dug through and retrieved an old headset from the boot of the car that I've been intending to take to the tip. I can announce that those are working! That's a good thing, right? Edit: via jack plug. [Post edited 17 May 2020 14:57]

Sorry, what? If a laptop is dropped in a desert with no one around to hear it, will it still make a sound? I can hear the TV just fine thank you. [Post edited 17 May 2020 16:38]

Any tech types on 16:20 - May 17 by longtimefan | That proves the underlying sound processing is working so that’s good. But a bit strange neither laptop speaker or Bluetooth audio are. I’d say that tends to suggest a driver problem but you’ve tried that . |
I reckon I've tried the driver routine a dozen times now. Bizarrely, the diagnostic has thrown up a 'generic driver issue' a couple of times yet not each time. Although 'generic' isn't really helpful. Still, thanks for the push to making me at least try the jack connection. That's some kind of reassurance maybe.

Well, the tories have broken pretty well everything in the UK, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if they've broken Jeera's ears.

Have you right clicked the speaker icon at the bottom right of your screen and selected trouble shoot sound problems?

To the point of almost wearing the right-sided button out. The results keep varying between telling me there's no problem to there being some generic problem. In between it keeps asking me to rate the test sounds it offers me. Of course I can't hear the test sounds it keeps trying to produce because the thing isn't working. Apparently swearing doesn't make any difference either. My laptop is a moron.

Have you checked the capacitor on the flux? Might need to go back to a previous version until a future update is available?

It seems that there are various problems with these. First try using the Volume up button on the keyboard. It seems to work independently of the system tray icon. Secondly the sensor in the headphone jack may think there is a jack plugged in. Try blowing it or give it a scrape with a toothpick. Lastly you may need to change the driver type being used as it seems that these get confused and there is an alternative driver that can be tried.
