In the spirit of Melody Maker in 1988, I'm going to say 2020. There's masses of great stuff out there from times gone by to enjoy plus new stuff plus old stuff getting reevaluated all the time.
The article that made this point was a lot cleverer than how I've worded it.
I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

As someone that consumes a huge amount of new music, as well as enjoying and discovering older music at the same time, I'll go with this.
The early 90s has a soft spot in my heart for the grunge, metal and associated music that was produced at the time, most of which genuinely stands up to time, and which was the soundtrack to my teens and early 20s though!
I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun.
I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

No, although what came in the sixties was inspired by what came in the fifties I still think 1964 was THE year for music.

It was a bit of a wind up, and I wouldn’t really argue with you. But there again: Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Little Richard, Jerry Lee and many others did their best work in the 50s.

Yes they did although in researching exactly what records were about in 1964 I discovered one of them was 'No Particular Place To Go' which I think is one of Chuck Berry's best.

I don't mean to butt in but 64 has a strong claim I think. In addition to your citations I whittled a big list of songs down to these:
Beatles - And I Love Her Dylan - With God on Our Side Dionne Warwick - Walk On By Sam Cooke - A Change is Gonna Come Zombies - She's Not There
Now that said I could probably make a case for any year from 1954 to sometime in the late 90's if all I had to do was pick five songs (and depending how I was feeling on the day I had to decide).
Anyway, as you were. And apologies for the interruption.
God Save the Queen Psycho Killer Sonic Reducer Sex and Drugs and Rock n' Roll Go Your Own Way London's Burning Sound and Vision Marquee Moon Heroes Lust For Life Jammin' Bat Outta Hell
etc etc Yes, that's more than 5, but it deserves it
Just to name a few...
