I'd be fine with Jackson going 08:56 - May 22 with 4650 views | IPSWICHFANITFC | He has had a good season - 11 goals and 7 assists is very good. Not the easiest to replace the 18 goal contributions he's made but in my opinion, I feel Jackson is just that type of striker to tire defenders. There's nothing technical to his game, he's not a finisher and he's easily replaceable. If you want that dog type forward to tire defenders out and work the back 4 all game, then that lad up top for Wycombe, Alex Samuel, is his replacement. But I feel Sears or Dobra comfortably replace Jackson already - without looking at recruiting.

I'd be fine with Jackson going on 09:46 - May 22 by itfcjoe | Blackburn were in for him in January from what I’ve heard. He has searing pace and keeps a cool head when out wide to pick out passes in the middle, seems perfect for the more modern role of a wide striker at the higher levels |
That would make sense as they were interested before he came here. I've added that to my story. I agree with the points you make but I still don't think he's got enough in his all-round game to play at a higher level. Whatever the interest, the club aren't going to be in any hurry to offer a contract extension in the current circumstances.
I'd be fine with Jackson going on 10:01 - May 22 with 1801 views | groovyASH | Remember the last time we sold the block of our goals and assists? We finished bottom. He is not easily replaced for a mid table league 1 side. I wouldn't trust Lambert getting in a good replacement either. The only logic I can see in selling him is his limited roles up front, which likely dictates Lambert playing in a way he would prefer not to. I would like to see him encouraged to learn a wing role so he can be a contender for a wide role, he has the pace to do it.

I'd be fine with Jackson going on 09:55 - May 22 by davblue | I think he's ok, but nothing more than that. I would be interested to see how he would do in a team that does create chances, i think this is his level though, his technical ability is too limited for the Championship. his first touch isn't great. |
Nail on the head. To say he's rubbish would be unfair. He's a very effective player at League 1 level. But there's no doubt he has far too many limitations to succeed any higher. In the current climate, I'd be more than happy to keep him for the next 2 years to simply try and get us back into the Championship and give him the heave-ho then. I do agree with Joe that he's tailor-made for that Walters wide forward role in this kind of front four: Norwood Lankester Dobra Jackson [Post edited 22 May 2020 10:07]

I'd be fine with Jackson going on 10:10 - May 22 with 1780 views | clive_baker | I don't think Jackson's great, to be honest. Too often his touch is poor and he's not great with his back to goal. However, he's clearly valuable at L1 level and has been just about the best of a bad bunch this season. If we had some genuine width, pace and threat on the wings I think he would be a real handful, but dropping into the hole really isn't his game, which he was doing far too often last season. His pace is frightening, he should be playing off the shoulder of the centre backs and relying on getting the service. It would be a shame to see him go, but money talks. For all the talk of the El Mizouni's, Dobra's, Morris's I think people do need to realise that there's the world of difference between a wet behind the ears but promising kid and a 27 year old and more street wise senior pro. As for Sears, I loved pre injury Freddie, and he's one player that the break might have done some good for, along with Huws, Norwood, KVY, Lankester, Morris etc it's probably proved to be something of a leveller in terms of fitness, but to come back from so long out is going to be tough fir Sears.

I'd be fine with Jackson going on 09:09 - May 22 by Mullet | I'm neither a massive fan or detractor but it shows how badly our season has gone that Jackson is far and away our best striker. That the second best was Jordan Roberts at Gillingham shows how criminally inept we've been to not get a tune out of Norwood, Judge and Keane, let alone the rest of the squad. It's a big gamble that may redefine the squad and end the problem Lambert had with wanting to play 1 up top but not being able to drop Jackson or accommodate him and Norwood etc. To be honest it all seems so far away and insignificant in many ways right now, that whatever we do it'll be fine to just turn up and see how it goes. |
You ok? Criticising your man crush Will Keane? :)

I'd be fine with Jackson going on 09:04 - May 22 by itfcjoe | I don't know why Jackson seems to be rated so poorly by our fanbase, maybe because of a poor start? 11 goals and 7 assists is a very good return in 28 starts. They show he clearly does a lot more than just tire defenders out - as a comparison Alex Samuel has scored 10 league goals in his career and is 24. H looked good against us, but that performance clearly an outlier. Dobra isn't anything like the same sort of player, and Sears may never get back to his best after his injury. For a team that has been so short of goals, selling our joint top scorer and biggest assister is mad |
Wouldn't have a problem selling him, if he was replaced by Armand Gnanduillet from Blackpool on a free. Would be good business all round.

I'm not suggesting he should be sold right now, but I certainly wouldn't want him spearheading our front line in the Championship. Use him to try and get us back up by all means.

At this point, assuming Evans somehow sees sense and sacks Lambert, he's worth more to us as a reliable goalscorer who could contribute to a promotion attempt than selling him off for far, far less than we paid for him.

It is funny, as soon as I posted I thought, 'I realistically cannot see us signing anyone'. So think we are aligned on that. Will be depressing transfer window I think, I am sure given the financial constraints any asset will be sold.

I agree with this. I'd like us to play 4-3-3 next season. I think Lankaster and Dobra are ready for bigger roles in those wide forward places along with Sears. Is Jackson suited to the loan central striker - probably not. Could he be converted to be a success in a wide forward position - maybe. Jackson was reasonable in L1 last season so if a good offer comes and we already have other players in mind who are a better fit or just simply better we should take it! Gnanduillet is free and is a big targetman who outscored Jackson last season who would suit a lone central striker position far better than Jackson would

didn't see this thread when I posted mine but I am similar that I am fairly meh about him going or staying. I am pretty sure about players and my assessment so to feel this way is a little odd for me. His hold up play is virtually non existent but he will score some goals if you can shape a team for him. That team shape won't help players like Dobra and Lankester though.

"O.K. but nothing more" would be a fair description of an outsider looking in at a L1 team that started the season with promise but faded away to 11th - a true position confirmed by a blank record against the top sides. Several people on here talking about Jackson's lack of ability for our Championship push!! Even mid table L1 sides have their better players. He's good for us right now - anything else is talking about a team and a campaign that isn't even lurking just below the horizon.

He virtually refused to play him when he joined. He would suddenly be mysteriously injured and then available again. Clearly a similar issue with Janoi as well. Perhaps they told him they don't rate German football
