for people sitting in the park. And relatively easy to do, just make some circles.

Tho I'd prefer an upwind to a downwind one, thanks.

Very good.

Do you have to put your hand up and ask for permission to leave with groups huddling at one side of their circle as you are escorted out?

It’s good signposting and a works as a nudge.

But in practice how do you get to and from your circle!? ....and they don’t look a full 2m apart either.

Given our local co-op has signposted that 2m = 6ft you are probably right in saying they're not 2m. However I am sure I heard someone say that outdoors the virus globules dissipate quicker and you could probably drop the distance below 2m. Less likely to dissipate in enclosed spaces.

Also doesn't contact have to be for more than "x" seconds, in which case just walking past someone is not an issue.

Which is all why public transport, hospitals and care homes are the killers.

Occasionally when people get too close I've suggested 'imagine the corpse of your tallest relative stretched out on the floor. That far, at least'.

It only fails if the persons involved are related to MJH or Cruncher.

Well clearly you couldn’t but I don’t think that’s the point really. In the same respect that you can’t realistically go about a grocery shop and maintain a 2m radius at all times, or take a journey on public transport. Inevitably it just can’t and won’t happen, but it doesn’t mean it’s not a useful measure.

We really need to lose this mindset and stop letting perfection be the enemy of progress.

The issue isn't really people being 2m apart - I think people seem to be able to work that out most of the time given it's been ongoing for a while now.

The issue is that some of those circles will contain people from different households who will disperse and then meet up the next day with someone from a different circle.

Depends what circles you move in I guess.

That's a different point altogether, and not one I disagree with, but that's already the case.

I was talking about very overt visual prompts on the 2m point, which I think are useful, however obvious. I think you're giving the general public too much credit. I do think initiatives like this are very simple but potentially really effective at essentially saying 'no, you can't put your blanket there and sit 0.5m away from me' while avoiding the inevitable awkwardness and potential confrontation that brings.

I think you have hit the nail on the head. Everyone is so fixed on the perfection of maintaining two metres at all times. It would be lovely if it could be achieved but in the real wotld it will be impossible. I try to maintaim the distance where possible but then apply common sense at other times. I am fully aware that my moments of common sense will be the times where I will be at higher risk of infection or infecting someone else. With the instance of the park circles maybe allowing an extra metre or so between them would assist.

I have an image now of domonic cummings at a chalkboard of a UK map with 230 radius circles drawn on it to justify his current plight.
