I had a DIY test (fortunately negative) at a drive through centre a week ago. Sticking a swab down the back of your throat when you are already feeling nauseous is not much fun.

You swab the back of your throat & then both nostrils, break the swab so it fits in the bottle, add the barcode to the bottle & the bag, seal & hand to the staff at the gate/exit.

Yes they do involve a swab from the honker and also the back of the throat. I've not had one but my better half has and if she can handle it i'm sure you can.
