Seeing this 80's music stuff 00:44 - Jun 7 with 1094 viewsCoastalblue

and not yet gone through to see what's caused it, but I bet without searching for it you can't name the artist/group that had the most weeks on the Uk chart in the 80's

Seriously you'll never get it, and if somebody has dissed 80's music (herbi?) then this is probably gold for them.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

must be something dire then is it Jive Bunny? Cliff Richard?

The right track, but more dire.

Lower, lower.

Not Abba then.

The Birdie Sing probably or some other novelty effort.

Star Trekking?

To be fair, your types to be buying that nonsense weren't interested in music.

Edit: oh my word it's going to be worse. It's going to be Shakin' Stevens isn't it.

Not Abba no, they're probably split with the 70's I would guess?

We're not talking a single track, we're talking an artist/band who across a whole decade achieved more weeks on the chart with a number of tracks than anybody else, including MJ, Madonna, Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Prince, Bowie, Queen.

I was gobsmacked when I first heard it and the 80's was really my era.

Off to bed soon but I'll post the answer in the morning.

No you can't.

That's not fair.

I need to know.

Quite, there is far worse around in earlier and later decades (Mud for the 1970s, Take That for the 90s for the example). Stevens had at least paid his dues in many years of live performance before recognition and, like his countryman Dave Edmunds, gave exposure to some neglected rock'n'roll classics. So I put him in the same bracket as Englebert Humperdinck and Tom Jones - not my type of listening but undeniable talents as popular singers

I’d have gone for madness.

I don’t remember Sam Fox being that big, thought she was a one hit wonder.

And their description of The Jam:

Singles chart was Shakin Stevens - did this in a pop quiz recently

Mainly due to the fact that he had songs from 1980 through to 1989.

I'm going to get quite upset if you are implying that Willie Nelson is the kiss of death to other people's careers...

I had madness at first but went fir shaky because I remember Madness splitting in 86 whereas shaky was still charting, albeit less so right up to the Kate 80’s.

Still Sid the best ever cover of a Gary Glitter song.

Oddly enough Shaky charted all over the world except the US where he only charged once at No 69.

I’m not a Shaky chart expert I just looked it up.

I think his version of 'Always On My Mind' is the best (sorry footers, but Willie Nelson's voice is everything Neil Tennant's is not), then there was this little song called 'Crazy' he wrote for a woman called Patsy Cline...
