Good music books 16:08 - Jun 7 with 3526 views | Funge | I have almost finished The KLF - Chaos, Magic And The Band Who Burnt A Million Pounds. It is mad, and brilliant. Obviously I recommend it. I have ordered The Hacienda - How Not To Run A Club, which I have heard very good things about. Could TWTD please give me some further suggestions? I already have the Blue Christmas Almanac from 2001, so don't worry about that.

I never went to the club though so maybe I was missing stuff that others would get. I enjoyed his books on JD / NO, Substance & Unknown Pleasures - bit blokey like the guy himself I guess but entertainining. Very much enjoyed the John Peel autobiography, sad he didn't finish it himself of course but a good musical trip through the decades. Margrave of the Marshes. [Post edited 8 Jun 2020 11:32]

Crikey. I get that it was probably done for cathartic / symbolic reasons, but a charity could have done a lot of good with that.

At risk of sounding like a dick, the book goes into a fair bit of detail about that. No spoilers, etc etc.

Just wanted to know if it was true without reading the book. Sorted now though.

You ever read The Manual, Fungers? It's been evading me all my life, would love to read it.

Mark Fisher was an amazing bloke and, luckily, one of my early tutors. The memorial gigs to him are always something very special. On that tip, I'd also say K-Punk for people of a leftybumfest persuasion. Incredible book.

Happy birthday, Footers. https://freshonthenet.co.uk/the-manual-by-the-klf/ Interestingly, The Klaxons have said that they read (and followed) The Manual when preparing their rise to stardom. I think The Klaxons are a load of old tut, but then that's probably the point.

Been trying to buy it when it's been online all along and I didn't think to look Cheers! Yes, I saw what the Klaxons had said. No comment.

Good music books on 17:51 - Jun 7 with 2908 views | brogansnose | Detroit 67 - The year that changed Soul by Stuart Cosgrove is a great read. It's part history- background of Vietnam and civil disturbances in black America, very topical - with a close up of Motown and in particular the Supremes. He also has volumes on 68 Memphis with ML King and 69 with the Black Panther movement. Nice book too about Northern Soul which is autobiographical. Got to say that you don't even need to be into the music to enjoy them because he's so engaging. Last Night A DJ Saved My Life by Bill Brewster detailing the history of DJ'ing which sounds quite dry but ain't. The chapters about Disco and gay New York / early house are particularly good. Anyway, Brogan liked them.

I also thought of this, not a music book but kind of ties into some of those suggested and an entertaining read

Good music books on 19:30 - Jun 7 with 2831 views | DebsyAngel | Some that I have read and enjoyed are: "Blitzed!" - by Steve Strange "The Last Romantic" about David Sylvian "The Glamour Chase - The Maverick Life of Billy Mackenzie" "House of Fun - The Story of Madness" (that one took ages as it's thick as a brick and very small writing!) Just started "IN THE PLEASURE GROOVE — LOVE, DEATH AND DURAN DURAN" by John Taylor.

I've been listening to The Associates today thanks to this post Debs. What a band and what a talent Billy Mackenzie was. Is the book any good?
