I put it yesterday, but I make a starting XI of;

Holy
KVY - Chambers - Woolfenden - New LB
Huws - Downes
Lankester - El Mizouni - Dobra
Norwood/Jackson

If Woolfenden goes I suspect it'll be Wilson in for him. No doubt Kenlock in at LB as I can't see us signing anyone and if Downes goes then anyone from Skuse/Nolan/Dozzell in for him. I doubt we'd see them 3 behind a striker, so possibly Judge in for anyone of them really.

Tristan Nydam will be a real bonus at left-back if his injury hasn't impacted him too much.

That is a 12 man team - You need to drop one.

Defensively that is a lot of players and still looks weak.

Also in attack, no target man - which I think we need in this league.

I like the way you stick to the same formation throughout your teams - something we need to build. I would probably have Jackson in the first 11, ahead of Sears or Judge.

It is also a big ask for Nydam to make that first team left back slot his own, hopefully he can. The few games I saw him, thought he would be the replacement for Skuse, sitting in front of the back four.

The lack of height would worry me too, could get undone by set pieces.

Fair enough.

Think this has been Lambert's biggest problem - He has wanted to play 433 and I still believe that is his preferred formation, but has not managed to get one of the strikers to work alone up front.

Hence he has tinkered all over the team to try and get two up top, whether 442, 352, Diamond etc. Strangely enough Harrison demonstrated exactly how that role should be played at Fratton Park and we let him go.

Harrison's performance against Millwall on New Years Day is probbaly the best example of it under Lambert.

He hasn't really given it a chance this season despite spending most of 18/19 trying to play that way

That is a squad of 40 professional players. Even allowing for the fact that 16 of those have none of very little first team experience, it's still a hugely bloated squad so I see very few additions, given the huge uncertainly over when fans will be allowed next season.

That's a lot of players! One of the issues last season with PL he was trying to appease players by playing them to keep them content, he's going to have the same problem next season unless he changes his approach. I don't think he deals well with too many options. When you look at that list, there's still positions which lack depth in quality, not numbers. Then you look at our CM options and we're ridiculously top heavy. If anything it highlights, we really do need a huge clear out and to start again with a small nucleus of players, appreciate that is going to be difficult due to the current situation. Even with these vast numbers in our squad, we need 3 quality signings with L1 pedigree, a dominant CB, a LB and target man upfront who can hold the ball up to make us serious contenders. Really hope that a few of the younger players get an opportunity and grab it with both hands, they've got a real chance to make a positive impact.

I mean a lot of them won’t be close to first team action you’d have thought, and you can take Woolfenden and Downes out now, but the squad looks huge!

Centre back area is poor (bar Woolfenden), think we really need the addition of Tommy Smith.

That's where some get befuddled looking at the numbers and believing our squad should walk this league. Although we have a huge volume of players, it shows we haven't got the depth in quality and experience. Even from our first team players, how many would seriously get in any of the top 6 L1 sides? Based on last season, Downes, KVY, Woolfenden and possibly Jackson.

Surprised to see Huws is a nailed on starter in so many sides. I can only assume it’s based on his name and the player we once saw here pre-injury, as by and large I thought he was awful last season. I loved him when he signed, and wanted nothing more than for him to come back with a bang but he looked immobile, sluggish and was a huge part of the problem for me. We were pedestrian and entirely predictable for large periods and he wasn’t anything close to the box to box and creative influence he was pre injury. That’s not a criticism of him per se, it’s hard to spend the best part of 2-3 years out and expect to come back to that standard. The break might prove to be a leveller for him but he’s one player that has everything to prove IMO.

I wouldn’t imagine there are any suitors in this climate but looking through that squad ideally we would be moving on Nsiala, Donacien and Wilson, none of which have impressed me. It would require us signing an experienced defender or 2 with real leadership abilities. We also need another forward, someone with a bit of guile and experience. A Murphy type.

I think that if we found anyone will to cover their wages we'd be willing to let Nsiala, Donacien, Nolan and Judge leave. Wilson will be on a relatively low wage so can't see much point in him leaving. Agree generally on Huws, but worth another season.

For me the problem with our attacking play last year was we had so few players willing to take on a man, or burst forward into space (apart from Downes to an extent, and KVY who is excellent but whose absence coincided with our form falling apart).

Nolan, Huws, Judge, Skuse, Dozzell, Garbutt all want to receive the ball in comfortable positions, put their foot on the ball and look up. That Accrington away game in October or November was a dreadful example, in that we had 4 pedestrian central midfielders standing in the centre-circle with no attacking options other than 5 yard passes to each other when they did get on the ball.

Dobra, Jackson, Sears and Lankester, even El Mizouni, could all be really important next year to provide that zip and drive that was missing for large periods of last season.

We have been so pedestrian at times it’s untrue. Another area were we have been beyond poor is attacking set pieces, Garbutt aside we’ve created nothing from free kicks or corners. So another tick in the El-Miz to start is his set pieces, scored from his corner at Posh ( looked the only player wanting to take them on for 15 mins he was on for ) and that cracker for Cambridge.

I don’t think Jackson or Sears are as good wide players as Dobra and Lankaster. I see Jackson more as a sub in the last 20 minutes of games to run tired teams ragged.
