After the Cov away game, I chatted to some Cov fans who said that, first half especially, we were the best team by far they'd seen all season. Early in the season, Cov's defence was woeful at times. But they managed to plug that gap, turn it around and now they're up.

Especially in league 1, margins are small - which is why we went from winning every week to losing every week. We've got a good crop of youngsters coming through, and players returning from injury, and a manager who, despite his failings at times, should be good enough for league 1. We'll have also had the experience playing for a season in league 1 to draw on.

Even if we lose Flynniesta and Wolf, there's enough to be hopeful that if/when next season happens, there's no reason we shouldn't be able to have a good go of it.

Not really. My view hasn't changed because it's based on actual evidence. Yours hasn't changed because you're stubborn and immune to reason.

Just laughable. 👏

We seemed to have a lot of confusion at full-back/wing back and how to fit Judge into the team. Plus a strange desire to unsettle Holy in goal with someone who wasn't demonstrably better.

But I could see where everyone else fitted in. There was just this seemingly unnecessary confusion over Judge in particular that had knock on effects in too many other areas. For example, Garbutt should have been our left midfielder given his ability in attacking areas but he was sacrificed in that position for Judge and then became an average defender.

There's so much to admire about Judge as a player but he's not the player to build a team around. He's a joker that could have a free role in an otherwise solid team.

I think the confusion wasn't helped by the defensive options being pants. Donacien or Edwards at right back, neither looked capable. Kenlock wasn't fancied, and Garbutt wasn't the best defensively, as well as being a little wasted there given his delivery further forward.

I genuinely can't remember the last time we had a pair of fullbacks, both of which I've really liked and felt were reliable defensively. Probably not since Parr, and that was short lived. Even when we had Cresswell and Mings it was often Chambers shoe horned in at right back. Spence and Iorfa were both suspect. KVY looked a great addition, huge shame he was crocked so early.

That’s fine, I’ll remind you of my point when we get promoted and I’m sure you’ll do the same with yours, even though I agree with it. Certainly not mental though.

In the incredibly unlikely event we get promoted having had a similar goalscoring record but having tightened up our already very good defensive record then I’ll concede you have a point

However any promotion will almost certainly come about because we’ve significantly improved our goalscoring record, so I don’t think me having to do the above is very likely

Not what I said about our current goalscoring record in relation to a promotion, but hey-ho.

Our ability to score goals is undoubtedly the main issue that needs resolving. But that stems from issues through the team, in general we'd start games well hammer at the door then when we have missed good chances heads go down and the opposition get their tails up.

There was a total lack of confidence across the team as the season went on. No cohesion and panic set in trying to avoid the inevitable going a goal down as they didn't have belief they would score.

This is all down to the manager, rotating players and systems not settling on any. Injuries didn't help of course but any manager should be improving players and the team becoming greater than the individual parts.
