Needed, but I look forward to certain posters suggesting that economic stimulus is not the role of the Bank of England and this sets a dangerous precedent.

"Pumped into the economy" or splashed over the faces of lenders?

Wouldn't it do more good to give everyone 1.5K to ensure it gets to more of those who need it and will spend it?

Surely giving everyone £1.5k would mean that it also gets to a lot of people who dont need it.

But that's more likely with quantitative easing to prop up financial institutions.

If they don't need it they are likely to spend it which is good for the non-lending economy.

However if you give the money directly to people you have no asset in return which isn't the case with bond purchases.

It entirely depends what you are trying to achieve.
