Any Canada based blues here? 11:36 - Jun 25 with 4406 views | OhDavidMcgoldrick | My wife has been offered an opportunity to work in Canada (specifically Vancouver), I am naturally a bit hesitant but don't want to hold her back, Other than being a different culture/climate, what are the fundamental differences of Canada that may not be obvious before moving? Cheers!

From what he tells us it's ace. If you don't go then you'll possibly end-up with regret at a later date. Is the UK that good to turn down Vancouver? I'd love to go.
| Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me.
Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing.
Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial.
Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid.
Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

Any Canada based blues here? on 20:29 - Jun 26 with 508 views | Crawfordsboot | Go for it. We went out as landed immigrants just after I finished articles and absolutely loved it. If you like an active outdoor life Canada is brilliant. In the first month I went to Upper Canada College to play football with my company team and was amazed to see four cricket matches underway in the grounds. Then in the winter I discovered ice hockey, playing and watching. The pinnacle was when Town came out on a summer tour and I met up for a drink with Roger Osborne a classmate from Farlingaye days. Whilst you are free from ties the life is fantastic. On the other hand if you start a family it can be tough, particularly on the wife without the traditional family and friends support group around you. Because of this we headed back just in time before our eldest was born. I thought of Canadians as America’s civilised cousins. What America could be without the rednecks and Trumps of this world. On the other hand they can seem rather conservative in outlook. It should be a wonderful experience - keep an open mind and just go for it.

Any Canada based blues here? on 10:26 - Jun 26 by OhDavidMcgoldrick | Thanks all for the comments, I think we will start looking into the practicalities and real world costs etc then if it all stacks up make the move. Although knowing COVID-19 things will change over the next couple of months! The big appeal to us is the outdoor world, skiing in winter, hiking in summer, more space, perceived friendlier people. I like the UK but I do wonder if the housing crisis is going to change the landscape of some our nicer areas over the next 10 years. For example, our friends live near Braintree and previous green areas are being eaten up continuously for housing or industrial purposes. Scary looking at a map of London and seeing the overspill compared to Canadian cities! |
Great. And once you're settled, you know, got your feet under the table and all that, we can start looking into adoption. No mad rush, but keep me informed.

If you're coming for skiing and the outdoors you can't get better than the BC mountains. I moved here 20 years ago and because of the quality of life in BC could never see myself going home. Thanks to the magic of IFollow you can even get up at 7AM every Saturday to catch every minute of every disappointing home loss to the likes of Lincoln and Rochdale. I live in Whistler and am in Vancouver regularly, if you need any more info or help from this end drop me a message. Go for it and good luck. [Post edited 26 Jun 2020 23:10]

You wouldn't be leaving paradise, that's for sure. I'd be off if I was in your shoes, as it stands I'm moving just over the border to Scotland instead, which still feels like a step up.
