WTF is wrong with people? 09:31 - Jun 26 with 7338 viewsStokieBlue

Second night running that police have been attacked trying to disperse and illegal party in London:

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/jun/26/police-attacked-at-illegal-stree

Why are people acting so selfishly? The parties aren't allowed anyway and will cause issues with other parts of Europe already seeing a rise in cases of C19 and then to attack the police for trying to disperse them is totally unacceptable. There was a quote from the previous night where someone said something along the lines of: "It was all fine until the police started to try and enforce the law". I mean what on earth?

Then you have 500,000 people heading to the beaches in Dorset and once there complaining that people are idiots for crowding the beach whilst totally ignoring the fact they themselves were there to crowd the beach. They then leave tonnes of litter and it looks like they will force the closure of beaches.

Depressing.

People are restless and fed up from months of restrictions but also anxious about the immediate and future economic impact. I think that's why we are seeing large scale dysfunction. Not excusable but it is understandable, at least logically.

I think pubs reopening will help reduce some of the huge numbers of people heading to the coast.

There's a good chance normal life is more centred around being outside from henceforth. I would say councils should focus on restructuring services but I'm pretty sure they are all struggling financially. Whether that's justified from their finances, I don't know. Hugely variable by area, I guess.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

I'm running a project at work that has been initiated by SCC who are doing lots of restructuring for various reasons related to Covid at the moment.

It's here to stay and we've got to find new ways to live.

Many councils are virtually bankrupt given the provisions they needed to supply for C19:

I understand people are fed up but I don't feel the need to attend a massive illegal party and then put 12 policemen in hospital for trying to do their jobs.

I do think it's likely that there will be a vaccine for C19 in some form. The scientific effort which is being put in is fairly unprecedented for a peacetime project. There are hundred of labs around the world working on this where usually it would only be a few working on a disease.

In the shorter term we will need to change the way we live and perhaps society will decide we prefer that way going forward. It might not be forced upon us by C19 though.

There's a total lack of respect..... on 09:53 - Jun 26 with 3416 viewsBloots

….within large sections of our country.

I referenced the same quote yesterday, it got ignored.

Knobheads cramming beaches show's a huge amount of stupidity and a total lack of respect for the wider community.

Knobheads attacking the Police is, in my view, a more serious issue that needs addressing quickly.

But that's easier said than done.

Agreed.

A lack of respect for fellow people and a huge sense of self-entitlement that as long as they are doing what they want then it's fine.

I guess the two are actually aspects of the same thing.

Has it always been like this and C19 is laying it all bare or has society changed recently to allow this type of behaviour to be seen as acceptable for many? Good project for some final year sociology grad there.

3/4 years ago amid all the brexit b0llocks I said on here that I didn't think there's much to be proud about being British, it sent the gammon collective who were quite dominant on here at the time into absolute meltdown.

What a nation of entitled and ignorant b@stards we are.

The idiocy of believing that this virus would allow humanity to press the reset button and reassess what's important. Appears society has resorted to type. Sad to see.

People are idiots. But the government/media have hardly been helpful in their messaging either. It's not suprising that people are acting like this when for months they've basically been encouraged to exploit whatever loopholes they can or to go about their usual business to the fullest extent possible.

Morning Footers.

Whilst the government messaging has been poor as you cite I don't recall them ever saying that illegal parties and attacking the police were the way to go.

Not everything can be pinned on the government, people need to take some responsibility for their actions as well and shouldn't be given an easy "out".

Totally agree that people should be taking more personal responsibility, but we can't really expect that to be the case given all that's happened during this pandemic. People have behaved awfully throughout.

I'm not trying to blame the government entirely, although they and the media do need to be held to account for actively encouraging, in my view, irresponsible behaviour. Even in this morning's S*n you can see several stories pushing for people to get out alongside stories warning of the dangers/condemning mass gatherings. It's bonkers.

And good morning to you too, SB. What a lovely day it is! Shame it's going to be sullied by 'work' though.

So, a nanny state is needed then?

People need to take ownership and responsibility for their actions and consequences. I'm pretty sure that 99.9% of the population know full well what an illegal music festival might be.....
