As the Labour front bencher in the video I linked (sorry his name escapes me) says, it’s just a continuation of the “Everything bad that happens in the world is the fault of the Jews” trope. Or the “Jews pulling the strings from behind the scenes trope”.
These people just think that blaming Israel for everything bad that happens in the world or accusing Israel of pulling the strings from behind the scenes adds a sheen of respectability to their racism. But their racism is revealed by the very fact that it’s always exclusively the world’s only Jewish state that they continue to apply these conspiracies to.

No, it's wrong. Criticism of Israel and its involvement overseas can be a continuation of the trope that "the Jews are controlling things behind the scenes" Not "is just a continuation".
Pretending Peake meant that is your continuation based on nothing else.
And Zionism is a lot of things. When it's used politically and/or in a racist way then it's something that can be freely criticised on those grounds. It's bad faith to assume anti-Zionism is antisemitism or indeed anti- an Israeli state and a safe haven for Jews. | |

Chances are, the Tories will be even more half-arsed about dealing with it than Labour with antisemitism. I think the link from 'The Prole Star ("left-wing alternative news blog" according to wiki) you posted via twitter on page 2 of this thread illustrates the point you're trying to make rather neatly in its third para (if you leave out the distortion of it in the shape of dragging Miliband's name in) -

As I said in the other recent 9-pager re RLB's sacking - with anti-semitism being called out much more recently, it may well be that it's gone more "underground", with "Israel" being substituted for "Jewish". That could perhaps act as a flag for other anti-semitic individuals or groups; or be intended to act in a subliminal, Derren Brown kind of way, to try and influence uncommitted people; or both. It certainly doesn't help when Jewish organisations themselves conflate "Jews and/or Israel" and call Israel "the Jewish State" as in the CST article you linked in the other thread.
As DK says, in being turned back on itself it's become even more horribly messy now. All the more reason for everyone to keep insisting on avoiding conflation, keeping discussion and use of the words "Israel" and "Jewish" separate, and pointing the conflation up where it's already happened. |  |
