Interesting business move by the UK government 12:50 - Jul 4 with 1121 views | GeoffSentence | https://www.gov.uk/government/news/uk-government-to-acquire-cutting-edge-satelli OneWeb filed for bankruptcy partially due to financiers panicking about CV19, and the government seems to have taken the chance to grab a bit of satellite technology. Not sure how if will directly benefit thr UK since the manufacturing bases are all elsewhere and difficult to move, without putting OneWeb further behind SpaceLink. Interesting move nevertheless.

It's because we pulled out of the EU scheme for political reasons. So, now spending a lot more money on a bankrupt US company whose technology has never been used for the purpose that UK govt need. What could possibly go wrong?
Interesting business move by the UK government on 13:19 - Jul 4 with 1028 views | matteoblue | It's an interesting bit of spin by the government. There was much talk of investment in a UK space programme, and now it seems that this could be what it amounts to. It looks like the BSB to Elon Musk's Sky.

Yeah, OneWeb are doing something completely different from Gallileo. Maybe they think they can diversify OneWeb and use their existing infrastructure to build a replacement. Given the UKs generally woeful record with emerging technologies, for instance ignoring Frank Whittle's Jest engine for 9 years until we were on the verge of war, then giving the technology to America, it is promising that the HMG is at least getting involved in new tech.

It was always clear that OneWeb didn't do GPS so find it difficult to believe that they are buying into it with that as the immediate goal. Maybe using their expertise to build a competing system later, but not as an immediate replacement. But anyway, it's still good for the UK to get into aadvanced tech and there will still be some value in OneWeb even if not for a Gallileo replacement.

It is being bought / invested in as a Galileo investment though. Cheaper than DIY, and Not European. Shame it won't work.
