Go get him back off broke Wigan! Kieffer Moore will still command decent fee. Joe Garner should be very cheap or free. Ideal L1 player. Loves a physical scrap. Him and Norwood would be such a handful and pest for oppositions. He scored over 50 goals in last two seasons in L1 as well. At 32 he's got plenty left for a season to get us up and back up for next year.

I know it won't happen. I think he wants to be up north. I know he wasn't universally popular but that was a nail in hursts coffin. After Waghorn went he should never have let Garner go. We need a few more in your face players who can fight out wins when its tough.

Agreed , he won't come back here .

To be fair , we got a decent amount for him and if he was unsettled , a move made sense .

He was too busy falling over and fighting his own battles with the ref or opposition to be a vital team player

We could have done with his 10 goals in 29 starts...

We couldn't afford him. Don't think he would move. Norwood is very similar in his game.

On a par with Wilson? That is brutal! I agree he is remembered as being better than he really was but there was no need to go that far, Wilson is abysmal

Wilson was perfectly adequate if not necessarily a long term option, and if memory serves actually a lot better than many expected.

Yes, but nowhere near the level of Smith.

When did Wilson get an abysmal tag? He was generally considered a good free signing who was better than expected and decent cover. Reasonably solid but limited. I think Smith on ability alone was in that same bracket. If cost was equal and was picking one i'd probably go Smith because he's a town boy.

I dare say Wilson isnt on a lot and is good value squad CB.

Similar in an harrasing/annoying CB game. I think different strengths as players. Think they would work.

Its not happening obvs but an interesting idea.

Honestly amazes me the regard for Smith as a CB. He really was not great. Would be solid enough in this division of course.

I think maybe you're just not considering how far we've fallen.

Smith's a solid Championship Centre half with a vast amount of International experience.

10 goals in 29 starts (+3 sub) at a level above where we are now.

Effective and if fit would would be way too good for this division.

TWO goals, not TEN.

Its a no from me.

RIP Sir Bobby

I'm sure TS would be more than adequate in this division but don't see PL signing him. Re centre-halves, Corrie Ndaba really needs to start making his mark in the upcoming pre-season.

I think the problem is Corrie Ndaba isn't very good at actually playing CB rather than just looking like he should be able to play there and possessing the attributes to do so

Cor, that's as scathing a review of a young player as I've ever seen you give Joe!

Possibly not, although I'm sure it would take Smith some time to get up to speed. My main point was that 'abysmal' is a ridiculous word to use to describe Wilson's performance with us so far.

Wilson is an abysmal player and served as cover at best. He did OK with his hapless defending to fill a gap. Was never up to to being anymore than desperate cover. Oddly some class him as an actual 1st team member and some even put him down as 1st choice. He should never start another league game

I think when reading a post from Blubbers you just have to put it through somewhat of a hyperbole filter.

Centre back is one of the toughest positions to break through at, and he just doesn't have the mental side of his game required to play there for 90 minutes

Like I said, you can't tell me he's a better option than Nsiala and Wilson. Hell, as the 'experienced' option you could make a case for him coming in to replace Chambers.

Technicality of 1st team being the whole squad or the best 11, in this case I was talking the latter but I do understand the lack of clarity

Ok...a slight improvement on Wislon....at higher cost. Like i said.

Hell i'd have Tommy back just for the lift it would give to be honest. I wouldn't want him leading the line back in the championship though.

Maybe he'll take a very reasonable wage in the current climate...

I think what might be worrying regarding Garner and Wigan is if as usual the transfer fee is on easy terms and Wigan have gone into admin, do they still owe us money and if so are we likely to get it?

Football creditor rule means all debts to other English clubs have to be paid. I'd guess that's all probably done and dusted by now.
