David Conn on the Man City FFP Ruling is interesting 07:57 - Jul 14 with 1148 viewsSteve_M

As ever, he cuts through to the key points:

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/jul/13/manchester-city-cas-decision-no

Namely, the CAS foudn that City obstructed the initial investigation and that the main reason for over-turning the ban was that they judged it time-barred.

In fairness to him- he does note the key point, albeit in passing- which is that the main big allegation was dismissed because it was not proven, rather than because of obstruction or time barring... Of course- thats not such a good story.

And - despite being innocent - they obstructed the investigation because.....?

Despite being a City fan he’s always fair and reasonable when reporting on them.

Whatever the reasons and obstructions- they were not sufficient to persuade an independent body of guilt...

Presumably because City knew they were right, and they refused to help UEFA because they don't like them. That's all it really comes down to.

Their stated reason, I have no way to judge its legitimacy, was that UEFA kept leaking information City supplied to them. So they stopped providing further information.

Edit: Replied to wrong post. Should have been BT’s post.

The article says that the PL brought in their own financial fair play rules that “reined in over spending on players wages.” If this is the case, any idea how United bent the rules to sign Sanchez on a reported £500k a week?

But United are part of the clique and City are not.

I haven't read the PL version of FFP but i imagine it is just because United make a huge amount of revenue from all over the world, that the wages actually fit in the structure. City are certainly bigger here now, but United have been the biggest club in the world for some time with extraordinary revenues. I think they only stopped being number 1 over the last few years, think it is Barca now but might be wrong on that.
