It might have been something to do with Gove being all over the media extolling the virtues of masks and saying that wearing them in shops is just basic good manners. To then not wear one himself when those in Johnson's inner circle have fairly constantly undermined advice they are promoting is why this is a story. That the government response is to draw a distinction between shops and takeaways shows the level of contempt they hold the public in; not having to apologise or admit error is more important to them than people's health and safety. They're a bunch of hateful pricks. They can all burn. |  |

Completely unjustifiable and irrational comment. The media are to blame for many things, but they would not be doing their job if they did not point out yet another example of the government's flagrant hypocrisy.
Gove has actively asserted that masks should be worn, and that it would be considered common courtesy. He asserted that people would therefore do it voluntarily making legislation unecessary. The fact that there is an inexplicable delay in bringing the rule in, does not change the hypocrisy in his position. |  |

I agree but this government has a knack for saying a really important of guidance/legislation is coming in but in 2 weeks time.
Just. Do. It. Now.
The mandatory period of cogitation is so unnecessary. Take the 2m rule. Everyone knew it was getting reduced, the decision was clearly already made, why did they need to take 2 weeks for the media to talk about it. [Post edited 16 Jul 2020 10:27]
