We were top in January... 11:49 - Jul 23 with 3404 viewsMarshalls_Mullet

..I wish people from the club would stop trotting that one out.

We finished 11th and that's all that matters.

Stop clinging on to our position in early Jan.

I wish we would stop talking about last season to be honest. It’s done and getting angry about it ain’t gonna change it.

Plus football really is low on the priority list right now. The world is on fireeeee.

And our performances weren't worthy of a team being top.

Results were but we were nowhere near it performance wise.

Going on about January just proves they haven’t learned anything at all.

I think it is quite significant that we were top in January - highlights what a disastrous shambles the last few weeks of the season were (W1 D1 L7).

We may not have been putting in great performances for a couple of months before that, but were at least doing enough to stay in the hunt. Then the wheels came off and the manager/players proved unable to find, let alone refit, them.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

From November 1st onwards, we were 17th in the form table, which was over 22 games. That's a side fighting to avoid relegation.

I do. The world is a much better place with football for me personally.

Of course it's not as important as other factors but few things are. It's still nice to enjoy things.

Like the Liverpool and Leeds fans that get carried away and congregate en masses to celebrate, ignoring warnings and social distancing, leading us towards another wave of Covid and lockdown?

Nah, we don't need it right now because people cannot be sensible.

Yep. I went to Rotherham on that Tuesday night almost certain we'd lose and we did.

I then had a stupid amount of money on P'Boro to beat us on the Saturday - again I was so sure we'd lose.

We were rarely convincing were we.

I just don't know if I can cope with another season like last year on top of everything else!

Football is nice. So are gigs.

But really, if ones biggest concern is getting back to social/hobby norms I feel like I want to say pay more attention to the world around you?

Not a dig, although it’s hard for me to say it any other way, but we have WAY bigger problems than lack of overpaid men kicking a ball around.

Why is it a contest? I don't think anyone has said it is one of their biggest concerns, just that it's a pleasant distraction, something good for a person's mental well being.

Anyhow, why can't people want both the world to return to normal and to fix the underlying issues in society?

Exactly this. I hate the 'bigger problems' argument. You can pretty much say that about everything.

My biggest issue is the idea of going back to “normal”.

F*ck what was normal, it was sh*t.

I think we have to take issue with the actual issues and not attack everything that was 'normal'. We can retain the good bits and intensely focus on the bad bits that need changing.

You have to take those small moments of joy where and when you can find them.

I mean, on the whole I really cannot complain. It’s the wider system we’re trapped in that does my nut. I have no control over it as an individual, but I see more people waking up to it which is nice.

Well we all have a point of view but for me its important that we remember we where top in January and yes keep talking about last season and learn from the mistakes that we made . So gain confidence from remembering we where top at around the halfway point, who would not take that for next season, we can be top when next season ends .

The top in January line is pretty desperate. Yes it is factually accurate that we briefly returned to the top of the table off the back of a few decent results, however we were never clear at the top like we were before our disastrous November and December. It's like the club is trying to airbrush that poor run out of the history books and pretending we were always right up there until one poor run in February and March scuppered us. That is totally inaccurate. We went 8 league games without a win from early November to January. Teams that get promoted don't do that.
